outfit help please??????

have a christmas dinner to go to in a posh hotel. no official dress code, but its a very swanky place. i need a dress to wear that fits the following criteria:

1. looks good on me- am 5 foot 8 and size 12.
2. doesnt cost the earth and
3. i am not going to freeze in it.

i have until 17th dec to get it, please help me..........

no idea on budget, but dont want to spend a fortune. also no idea on length or sleeves. i am 30 so nothing really old fashioned or kiddie styled, petrol green suits me, as do most colours thankfully. (except yellow or orange)
