semi permanent over highlights?

what will happen? I have really grey hair that I had been dyeing a medium/dark brown forever. Got fed up trying to keep up with 2 /3 week root regrowth. So stripped darker colour out with colour be 4 and waited 3/4 weeks then had fine highlight put through. Now have a base colour of quite a light brown with golden (not white) highlights. But.... can't bear the grey roots still, thought this would help them blend in more but I feel so grey and people are starting to comment :( have a semi permanent (single bottle, no mixing, 8 wash) in dark ash blonde. Do you think I will turn green?

No but you will go darker and will lose definition of highlights

Thanks Cybbo, not too worried about losing the highlights if it means I lose the grey.

Once you've gone all -over with the colour you could just use root touch up kit

thats what I was doing, every three weeks, thought highlights might be the way forward but can't bear the roots. Maybe having a lighter dyed colour will mean roots are not so obvious so soon and I can go longer between touch ups.
