I have them done about every 3 weeks and have done for the past year since having DD and no time to self maincure anymore!

I would def reccommend it as once they are on they are on and require little maintenance. They only look fake when they are not done properly (ie put on too thick) and unfortunately a lot of salons can be hit and miss.

If you are unsure why not give shellac a go? That is somewhere of a halfway house I believe...

I am going on Saturday for Bio nails doing ready for the party season. I have booked for them re-doing every 2 weeks until after Christmas. I have had them done before and loved them, stopped because I couldn't keep up with the cost.

I have mine done every 2 weeks cos my nails grow quick and got too much re growth in 3 weeks. This is just a personal thing as the look of them was fine after 3 weeks in the past.

I have had Shellac done in the past too but they only lasted a week for me and for the same price Bio made more sense.

What is shellac please? And what is the difference to gel? I've got thick, very strong nails (one of my only redeeming features - hair is crap Grin) so I don't need a 'false nail' if you see what I mean. I'm just interested to know if these things damage the nail underneath. E.g. Nails inc 3-week manicure they make it sound like it is just a long lasting manicure but I've heard they file the surface of the nail to get it off Confused, not interested in that at all.

Shellac, or there are other brands - gelish, gelac etc, paints on like a varnish but is cured under a UV lamp and lasts as long as gel nails, doesn't chip etc and it soaks off with no damage to your nails.

In terms of nail damage - I too have great nails, really strong. They are def thinner having had gel on BUT i think that if I stopped then it would only be a matter of months until I got the strength back.

Thanks Quinn and Steben. Where to get this done is the next question? Is nails inc any good? Or should I try a local place?

steben · 23/11/2011 15:51

Do you know anywhere from reccommendations? I find salons really vary when it comes to gel - I would ask around and if no joy go for a chain.

I go to nails inc, have done for around 4 years. Love them and have the 3 week manicure which is exactly that ! I get a colour gel and it lasts me the weeks until I either remove them myself or return back to nails inc.

Work every penny imo.

I have also had shellac BUT imho they didn't last as long as nails inc...
