Leopard print shoes - yay or nay?

For our Xmas office party it's normally a lunchtime meal in a posh type pub/restaurant straight from the office that goes on way into the evening. Some get dressed up but others just go as they are. I normally at least get changed so was thinking this year, black straight leg/skinny trousers, semi dressy top, some nice cuff bangles, little black fur jacket and....some leopard print shoes. Are these dated now or mutton dressed as lamb? I'm 38, a well proportioned size 12-14 and 5ft5.

I love 'em!
However, fashion experts will probably be here soon to tell you otherwise...

I think your outfit sounds great!

madeindevon2 · 22/11/2011 14:38

Sounds good to me. I'm your age and I would wear similar. If wasn't pregnant... :-)

PinotHolidaysAreComing · 22/11/2011 14:38

I love them on the proviso that it's the only animal print you are wearing and that you don't mix with bog old gold earrings a lá Bet Lynch.

PinotHolidaysAreComing · 22/11/2011 14:38

bog old? arf
big old
though bog works too

kblu · 22/11/2011 14:39

Well I used to be massively into fashion but since having ds that has fallen by the wayside due to lack of funds/time to shop so I don't always know what is fashionable anymore! I just didn't want to wear the same old black peep toes.

I bought my first pair last month from TK Maxx - they are BCBGeneration and I am so in love with them! If I look like mutton then so be it - I think they look so good on!!! www.facebook.com/avenue57#!/photo.php?fbid=244627035588292&set=a.244626362255026.77873.211280975589565&type=3&theater

Absolutely lovely. Leopard print shoes are a massive winner - and your outfit sounds great.

Have a lovely time.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 22/11/2011 16:33

Agree, they are great as long as you don't wear any other animal print. I don't think leopard is dated or mutton; I think of it as a neutral. Your outfit sounds fab!

mirpuppet · 22/11/2011 17:06

it is a neutral.

madammecholet · 22/11/2011 18:13

yay yay and thrice yay...

you can never have enough leopard, use in small doses for max effect.. :)

Tortington · 22/11/2011 18:15

i want some leopard print loafers

moondog · 22/11/2011 18:16

Nay.

Unless that is the look you aspire to in which case, be my guest.

HugosGoatee · 22/11/2011 18:18

Yes yes to the shoes, my only reservation would be wearing them with a fur jacket - do you have a plain black smart jacket instead you could wear?

polyhymnia · 22/11/2011 18:25

Definitely yes - agree with what most people have said - leopard print's a 'neutral' now, and fine if you just wear the shoes without other animal prints. I love them and don't think they are mutton-y at any age.

As to being out of fashion, there are a pair of leopard skin flats in Grazia today which look remarkably like the ones I've just bought - but cost 3x more!

I too though wouldn't add the fur jacket personally.

kblu · 22/11/2011 20:48

Thanks for your replies, haven't got a plain jacket unfortunately, I've got a black lace blazer or a black boxy sequinned dinner jacket, think they will be worse than the fur to be honest...mmm, may have to re-think the shoes then.

I have the Clarks original desert boots in ponyskin leopard print.

So I say - go girl!

AndiMac · 22/11/2011 22:36

I have to say, I was coveting a pair of leopard print flats which are so trendy right now. Until I saw them on a bunch of women and thought they actually looked pretty awful. So no to flats, but I'll say yes to something with a bit of a heel.

messmonster · 22/11/2011 23:01

I have the Diary View shoes from Clarks which whilst leopard print are very subtle. Have had lots of comments when wearing them. Can't see them on their website any more but they may have them in store - gorgeous!

EldonAve · 22/11/2011 23:04

yay

MrsCampbellBlack · 23/11/2011 06:25

I adore leopard print shoes - especially with skinnies.

FlossieFromCrapstonVillas · 23/11/2011 06:31

Yeah! It's a nice look. Love mine.
