Evening dress - is it to formal for birthday drinks/dinner

What do you think of this dress, i need something for next week friends birthday dinner and drinks.....does it look too formal. I love the neon pink but not sure if brave enough

I think it's quite nice but because of the length you'd have to be pretty tall to pull it off.
