first job interview in 8 years. What to wear?

It's for a one day a week teaching post at a nice secondary school. The only smart things I have in my wardrobe are: black trouser suit I wear to funerals, grey wide legged trousers, black cord boden knee length skirt, burgundy cord knee length skirt. I love both skirts but I usually wear them with boots so not sure if they are smart enough. The wide legged trousers are a bit out of date I think and not sure a funeral suit is the way forward. Anyway, can I either have some suggestions for something to do with what I've already got or an inexpensive alternative?

oh I'm 5ft4 and a size 12/14, so nothing that requires lovely long legs please :)

I would definitely NOT wear cord skirts - too casual. i would err on the side of conservative for a teaching interview. I would go for your black funeral suit with some bright accessories if you don't want to spend any money.

I'm the same size and height as you and had a ( thankfully successful) teaching interview two weeks ago. For the long -leet interview I wore this jacket from Debenhams:

www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10001_10001_028010523760_-1?breadcrumb=Home%7EWomen%7ESuits+%26amp%3B+tailoring

The pin-dot detail is hard to see online, but stops it from just being another black jacket. i liked the buttons too. I wore it with the belted matching dress ( very flattering cut for curves). I can't see it online today but they can often find other items if you phone them or you may get one in branch. i needed the size 14 rather than the 12. I felt very smart and was delighted not to have shelled out a fortune.

if you don't like that one, Debenhams is still worth checking out as they had loads of options.

Wishing you the best of luck!

Thanks. Think that suit looks fab and would be nice to wear a dress rather than trousers. Well done on your job. Really want this job, would be perfect for this stage in my life but also offer opportunities for when I want to work more days.

I agree with novel (well done BTW Smile), go smart.

If you don't want a suit, a waistcoat and pencil skirt with a pussybow blouse underneath.

And good luck Smile

a waistcoat and pencil skirt with a pussybow blouse underneath would look good.

Ahem.

Shame I don't look quite like the model does in it!
