Scar from sebaceous cyst

I have a scar over one eye from a sebaceous cyst which burst under the skin (thanks DS, then aged 2!), got infected and left me with a dent. It has gradually become a little better but I still hate it, especially when the teenagers I teach ask about it. It was examined at the hospital, found to be totally harmless and so nothing further was done, which is fair enough as it's hardly life threatening.

Does anyone know if there is a proceedure to help improve its appearance, please? Internet searches have made me even more confused about what might work than I was before. Various sites have recommended dermabrasion, lasers and fillers. I have no idea what would be best. I can't afford a huge amount of treatment so something that would cost a lot is out. It also needs to be done and require no further work so fillers that need topping up aren't really what I want as I can't keep paying for that.

Does anyone have any experience of this please? I would like to go to an appointment with a doctor armed with at least some information but at present, I don't even know if I should be seeing a dermatologist or a cosmetic surgeon.
TIA

A dermatologist would be a good place to start.

I presume you've tried things like Bio-oil, or vitamin E oil and they haven't really helped?

Have a look at the scar treatment message boards on acne.org for some good reviews/ideas.

I looked into treatments briefly for my shallow indents caused by acne but decided it wasn't worth the cost or risk they could get worse.

Retin A can help hugely with scars. It's primarily an acne cream but as its pure Vitamin A, it makes your collagen produce at a faster rate which helps reduce scars and lines. I use it and it's diminished any acne scars I had to nothing (not deep pitted ones, just red marks). May be worth mentioning to your Doctor as its prescription only.
