What colour shoes did you wear if you had an ivory wedding dress?

Do i have to wear ivory shoes? I have a monsoon dress, valley mesh dress and don't want to spend loads in shoes i will never wear again. Also not much choice at moment as out of season ( wedding is in jan). Just hoping for inspiration from people who might have done something different?

Silver? Gold? A different colour to match your flowers?

Or buy some shoes you can dye afterwards?

I wore burgundy shoes and I loved it! My dress was long and full so most people didn't even notice. The colour matched the ties that the men wore and the wraps that the bridesmaids had. I found most of the bridal shoes a bit uncomfortable and, like you, wanted something I could wear again - which I have done. I got some funny looks from people in shoe shops though, particularly a Polish woman who clearly thought I was a harlot!

Jessicaalbastwin · 17/11/2011 12:41

I wore gorgeous gold shoes, because My flowers had abit of gold in them.

Pinner35 · 17/11/2011 12:43

I wore strappy silver sandals....I didn't buy them for my wedding, I'd had them for a couple of years, only wore them twice before but they were perfect. In fact, 8 years on I still have them.

Bartimaeus · 17/11/2011 12:44

I wore ivory! but they were rainbow shoes so you could dye them any colour you want (like the idea of matching flowers or ties.)

they were about 70 quid and the most comfortable pair of heeled shoes I have ever worn!

Hopefully · 17/11/2011 12:48

Turquoise! Dyed a pair of ivory ones with Dylon.

Graciescotland · 17/11/2011 12:49

I had these flat fabric ballerina style pumps on in a gold/ivory fabric for £4. Floor length gown though, they were great for ceilidh dancing.

mollschambers · 17/11/2011 12:54

I wore ivory satin. Loved them. Now think they were bloody vile. I'd go for strappy gold or silver sandals now.

GlaikitFizzog · 17/11/2011 13:16

I had blue shoes! Sorted out my something blue! Still have them still wear them!!

emsyj · 17/11/2011 13:38

Have you looked at Rachel Simpson? Her shoes are the best wedding shoes as they are normal shoe fabrics like suede and leather, so you could wear them again even if you chose ivory. She does do some coloured ones too though.

Karbea · 17/11/2011 13:48

I had bright royal blue shoes. Loved them, still love them!

BramblyHedge · 17/11/2011 21:09

Some good ideas here. Might look at burgundy and silver as they might go! Or dyable is also good as could dye them afterwards. Thanks everyone.

I wore jewelled jimmy choo strappy sandals which I could wear again.

I treated myself as I though I would never have an excuse for buying another pair.

I actually bought the shoes before the dress!!

Karbea · 17/11/2011 22:37

Chablis mine are Louboutins and I got those before the dress too.

ChablisLover · 17/11/2011 22:59

Lovely karbea. Love Louboutins too.

Must go and have a look at mine.

Don't get much chance to wear since ds came along. The fact they are sky high and a 5 year old don't mix! But they are lovely. Might break them out for christmas.

Same colour as dress, similar to this:

Interested? If you have size 5 feet I can send them over. Not suitable for january if you want to wear them outdoors though.

I wore that dress last month Grin. I was planning to go for gold shoes, but found that the dress really shows your shoes quite a lot, and for me ivory shoes looked better. Others were too conspicuous for my taste. It depends how tall you are I guess, but the sheer bit is a good couple of inches longer than the lining, and for me the sheer bit was just skimming the floor so my shoes were very much on display (I hope this makes some sense). I can't find a link to my shoes, so think they don't exist any more, but they were from Monsoon too, v. comfy and lovely and much admired (proof that they are highly visible!).

VeronicaSpeedwell · 18/11/2011 14:17

I think I sounded too insistent on the ivory. Mine weren't plain ivory -- gold and silver and beads on the front, and peeptoe so not a big arctic expanse of bridey shoe. The dress showed the toe trim off nicely, so I think something with detail there looks good. I still really do reckon that metallic shoes could look great, but for me shopping in September there were no nice party shoes around yet. You'll probably have more choice since the Christmas party stuff has arrrived now.

lynniep · 18/11/2011 14:20

I was mega cheap on my wedding day. I had a second hand medieval style dress from ebay, which was ivory with gold details, so I wore some indian shoes like these. I needed flat ones because the dress skimmed the top of my feet at the front. You can sort of see them in this pic of me mucking about after the ceremony. They cost me a tenner. I didnt wear them again, although I would have done but they were strangely uncomfortable.

BramblyHedge · 18/11/2011 20:07

Hazlenutt, they are lovely and i am a 5 but alas i think i will need to be outside a little bit. Thanks so much for the offer.

Veronica, thanks, good to know from someone who wore it. I am only 5ft 2 so may be more dragging than skimming depending on heel.

Cat, i think that as i am fully into jean wearing mummy of 3 little ones i struggle to see much use for heels...however i guess that isnt the case forever (says hopefully).

Thanks everyone

Pink! No-one notices your shoes anyway (I hope)

FritziGreenEyes · 18/11/2011 20:18

I wore ivory, but today I would go for metallic/silver/pewter!
