Big night out, make up advice needed...!

Have been invited to a proper party, in town, posh frock etc.
I have in my head this rule that you either emphasise eyes or lips. But I really really want to do both.
But given my age (see above Grin), my complexion (pale with v dark hair) I don't want to look like a doll/mutton dressed as etc etc.
So ladies, are the rules still the same? I've been in browns and nudes for so long now I've no idea what to do. Oh, and it's this weekend so no chance of a sneaky trip to a counter for ideas.

Red lips, flicky black eyeliner?

Have a look on Youtube for a make up tutorial. Pixiwoo does a great Marlene Dietrich look that I've used for dramatic big nights out.
Big supermarkets do plenty of make up if you can't get anywhere special. Bourjois do a glittery black eyeliner that's pretty dramatic with the Maybelline great lash mascara (pink and green tube.) You'd only need to shade the rest in browns and you're done.
How are your eyebrows? That's a good quick way to look dramatic, getting them shaped or just drawing a black eyeliner pencil through them.

I'd go on to Kandee johnson make up artist on you tube. She's amazing and does step by step guides to make up. She also does a great intro to flawless skin base with foundation which you will need if you are doing both lips and eyes at the same time.
be warned- you will lose hours of your life watching tutorials.

Thank u!
Love the idea of the glittery eye liner and 1940s glamour. I'm supermarketing in the morning so will sneak something in with weekly shop. Wink
I never think of you tube for these sorts of things, will have a look later.

Oh, eyebrows ok, used to have them waxed before budget tightened so have tried hard to keep the line and shape.

Get a brown eyeshadow-or whatever colour your hair is and an angled brush and shade them in. Again go to kandee for her video on perfect brows. She'll show you what to do. They will balance your face. Hth Grin

It does, ta Grin

I often do both but more subtly
Like a raspberry lip but glossy. Eyes nude shadows, black flicked liner and a teeny touch of glitter liner over the black

brighthair · 18/11/2011 00:29

Ooh or you could go golds/bronze on eyes - this always looks very "evening" to me and glammed up
Best glitter liners are collection 2000 or urban decay Wink

How did it go?
