Grrr, can't find trousers to fit...

And I just lost the first draft of this thread so really Angry now!!

I'm a weird shape, I have large thighs (all the running and cycling I do!), bit of a flabby belly but a small waist. I'm also rather short at a smidge under 5'3".

My work trousers are mainly Next but they never fit well, if they fit on my thighs they gape around my waist and if they fit my waist they're too tight on my thighs. Tried other brands (cheap ones I admit) such as New Look and they all seem to be the same.

It's very frustrating as having the gaping waist thing makes me look bigger than I am.

I have found over the last few years that Gap jeans fit me best so thought I'd try their trousers. Ordered two styles in two sizes and they arrived today. Had a big try on session earlier, the smaller size fits my odd shape perfectly (yay!!).

Apart from the length Sad.

Even with my highest heels they're three inches too long. Far too long to take up. So, they've all got to go back.

Went back online tonight to see if they have a shorter length, it's only available in black in the bootcut. I wanted the grey plaid ones or the grey perfect cut (?).

Now I'm really fed up. Finally found trousers that are cut to fit me and they're too long.

So, can anyone find me a grey pair of work/smart trousers that are cut the same as Gap? Leg length of 31", budget up to £50.

Thank you!!

have you tried buying a size/shape that its your thighs/bum then having the waist taken in by a seamstress? it should only cost £10-£15 a time depending on the trousers (jeans will be more i should think) but it's a fairly simple procedure

Keep the Gap ones and get the hem taken up. It's only about a fiver. I do this all the time, because I'm even shorter than you!

Thanks for the suggestion Prunella, maybe will give that a go.

AP, I'd love to take the Gap ones up - have had lots of trousers taken up before - but the amount that needs to come off these totally ruins the shape of the leg. Such a shame.

I have exactly the same problem and feel your pain. I have a pair of curvy cut trousers from Gap. I agree, taking them up by this much spoils the shape of the leg. Sadly, they have also washed really badly and I've lost a few lb and they look really shit and baggy.

Have you looked at lower rise styles? I find they fit better, as do ones from petite ranges. Wide leg styles often give the required extra thigh room, especially if they have some lycra in. Also, taking them up alters the shape less than with a boot cut.
Last time I needed trousers I pretty much ordered everything that looked suitable from m&s online, tried it all on and sent most of it back.

The quality of the Gap trousers is surprising Sprinkles, would have expected better for that money! Maybe it's not so bad I returned them if they don't wash well.

I do tend to wear the lower rise styles but haven't really tried wide leg styles, will give them a go.

I feel a trip to Bluewater coming on, getting fed up with getting stuff delivered only to send it back!

You need Banana Republic petite (or just short, petite os 30 lenght) Jackson fit. Try their US site, much better selection than the EU one.
petite
short

Ann Tayloy Curvy fit Petite is very good too. here Only trouble is they don't deliver outside US, so if you need a friend there or to use one of those forwarding services.

HazleNutt · 18/11/2011 08:44

Oh sorry the stupid Banan republic won't let you link properly.
Select Pants by fit, Jackson and sort by lenght.
