hair dye advice please

I've never been in here before :)

Anyway, after a rough year and a nervous breakdown I stupidly had my dark blonde hair highlighted, its too light, and growing out and I hate it.

--also had my tongue pierced, wtaf--

Anyway, I want to go dark, maybe more brown that blonde but I'm now skint and can't afford the hairdresser, so I was wondering can I just go over it with an at home kit? I've dyed my hair a lot before but never over highlights.

the ony thing i would suggest is if you go brown, pick something lighter than you think you want to be. Go for something with a slight red tone in it. DON'T pick a straight brown, as it will make your hair have a green tinge!
