What shoes with a maxidress?

I have this and want to wear it to a fairly dressed-up night out (fancy London cocktail bar type of night). What do I wear on my feet? I'm tall so from that point of view am not fussed about whether it's heels or flats. I'm 36 and (hope) my style is generally quite youthful. I have some leopard ankle boots with a small heel and am thinking about wearing them, or would that be wrong? Any other suggestions very gratefully received!

TIA.

I personally think you can't wear heels with a maxi dress. I think it looks like you're wearing stilts. I think pretty flats - sandals maybe are better. There are a few nice ones below. Hope you like them xxx

Thanks! I have a pair a bit like the second ones you link to. Is it really a no-no to wear heels with a maxi though, even for a night out? I'm worried that I'll look a bit beachy/daytime-ish with flats on, no matter how pretty they are ...

I think a maxi dress with heels is fine for evening wear. Look at all the red carpet events where the women wear maxis. No flats on show at those events because it wouldn't look right.

Strappy bronze heels that draw on the embellishment at the top.

Not sure what your point is, Confused ... do you mean Kate Winslet is wearing flats in that photo and still looks glamorous and 'eveningy'? I don't disagree, but a) I don't look like Kate Winslet and my dress is by Ted Baker not Ben de Lisi Smile and b) hers is long enough to have a kind of train, whereas mine's shorter. Haven't tried it on with heels before but it skims the ground when I'm barefoot so would probably be a couple of inches off the floor if I put heels on.

Sorry - I'm confusing myself now! Ha!
I'm sure the dress and shoes you have look lovely - I just have an awful memory of me in a maxi and heels and I looked like one of those carival/stilt performers! Maybe it's because I'm only 5"4 :) xxx

I just need to try my ankle boots with the darn dress and see, don't I? I'm just being lazy a bit busy to do try-ons at the mo. Thanks for the advice!

PS I bet you looked fine, and not like a stiltwalker except in your own head.
