What style of boots do you wear with day dresses and plaques??

I want some new boots, to wear with every day dresses a d skirts and thick tights. The ones I have now seeking and brown with a zip up the side, they feel really dated. What kind of boots or shoes look good for every day?? Please link me some ideas I'm so confused!!!!!
