Don't laugh - tell me about combs?

Hi all, I have reached my late 50s without using a comb (well, hardly ever), as my hair is very fine and prone to tangles, and a hairbrush at least gets these out. Plus I've never been all that concerned about my appearance, and mostly kept to short hairstyles.

I've now let it grow long, and a couple of times when I've had a trim the hairdresser has blowdried it and it looked great. I know I can't blowdry, but am thinking I should comb it not brush it, and even perhaps use conditioner occasionally.

But what sort of comb? Does it matter what it's made of, how fine the teeth are, etc etc.

All advice welcome :)

I use a wide tooth detangling comb, like this tresemme one www.amazon.co.uk/TRESemme-Detangle-Comb-Pack-2/dp/B003ZVLNPM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1321126081&sr=8-1 . It's great for long hair. I keep one in the shower and use it to comb conditioner through, and it's much better on wet hair as well as it doesn't snag like a brush can. Once the hair is dry though I usually brush it. Hope that helps.

Also with long hair I am sometimes naughty and pull it back into a low ponytail when wet, then twist the pony tail and clip it up with a hair slide. It takes pretty much all day to dry but when it is let down, it's detangled already and falls nicely without having to blow dry.

I would recommend the tangle teezer - I expropriated my DCs' Blush

if you like the way it's blowdried then you don't need a comb but Babyliss Big Hair.
