Bare Minerals vs Lily Lilo

Househunter · 12/11/2011 15:47

I know there has been discussion about mineral foundations and reading those threads it seems that a lot of people prefer Lily Lilo to Bare Minerals but I don't know if thats true for everyone or just the general impression I've picked up. Just wanted a quick poll really before I commit to one or the other. If you've tried both, which is better?

Thanks Smile

BE - more £ but easily available, Mineral Veil is terrific.

LL - cheaper, better coverage, lasts longer, better range of concealers to suit.

LL has no bismuth which has made me break out.

twinklytroll · 12/11/2011 16:43

I prefer be and I used to be a huge ll fan. I still buy eye shadows etc from Lilly.

Any more votes? Am incapable of making a decision like this without MN approval Grin

Twinklytroll - what is it about BE that you prefer?

LL. I tried BM, was horrible, caked, made each pore look like a crater, really obvious. Then someone here recommended LL and it's lovely.

neuroticmumof3 · 12/11/2011 18:17

I've just received some testers of LL, I usually use BE. The powder seems to be a lot thicker and harder to get on the brush than BE. That said, I think the coverage and colour is better. I'm a bit undecided so probably not much help.

Househunter · 12/11/2011 19:13

I've ordered some LL testers in 3 different colours. There is no LL outlet anywhere near me so I hope one of the colour will suit. I've got high hopes esp since its cheaper...

LL definitely, BE was very orange on me, made me look like a towie Grin

twinklytroll · 12/11/2011 19:19

I found that the colour of LL were just not right, it was also a little heavy. When I started to use BE lots of people commented that I looked better.

Househunter · 12/11/2011 19:31

Looks like LL might be better for me then as i think I need a good coverage. Have had a tester of BE and have been amazed by the staying power but I have a matte one and the Get Started Kit only comes in the normal version, which is the one which has the breakout causing bismuth in.

I started a thread recently about BM and acne...I loved BM but since I started using it I have had really awful cystic acne which i don't normally suffer with.
Some posters also mentioned bismuth as potential culprit, so I ordered some LL samples to see if I get on better with their stuff. They only arrived today so too early to say anything, but will come back and report.
I know that BM matte foundation is bismuth free but their other products aren't - mineral veil, warmth, blush all contain bismuth. I have found LL people helpful on their facebook page and the delivery was very quick. LL is cheaper too, so I'm really hoping it works for me.

Househunter · 12/11/2011 21:24

I recently had a breakout after having quite good skin and I wondered if it was the BE. But as I have been using the matte version I was hoping it is not the culprit.

Funnily enough the first time I was in a department store a woman was returning her BE because it was irritating her skin.

hester · 12/11/2011 22:13

BE for me. It's a bit sheenier which puts a bit of life back into my skin.

Having said that, I think LL is good too. I like the concealer and the blusher particularly.

Househunter · 13/11/2011 12:43

Ah, well, I have oily skin so can supply my own sheen!

So those of you who have tried both, what shade ll foundation should I go for - I use be fairly light, and bisque concealor. I'm having break out problems with be so ll seems like next best thing.

Pinot · 13/11/2011 12:58

Seems to be horses for courses. Duende please do report back - I've swapped to LL this week for the same reason.

twinklytroll · 13/11/2011 13:02

I still use my old benefit concealer as the mineral ones don't do the job. Bisque is the wrong shade for me, too dark.

Househunter · 13/11/2011 13:02

The Light Matte BE suited me, so I have ordered Candy Cane, Blondie and Barely Buff LL samples. Hopefully one of them will work for me.

Any ideas on what LL shade I should order? Red hair, pale, wear fairly light in BE

Pinot · 13/11/2011 13:35

brighthair you sound like meeeeeee! I have light ginger hair (strawb blonde), pale and light freckles and wear FL in BE. I wear Blondie in LL and it's a great shade for me. China Doll is a touch lighter, In the Buff is a touch darker.

brighthair · 13/11/2011 13:39

I shall have a look Grin
BE woman tried fair on me which is meant to be lighter but it was weirdly orange
Golden fair looked ok on me too, but fairly light def best

Pinot · 13/11/2011 13:43

I find BE just all too yellow for my skintone. I'm a classic celt and I think as BE is american - they just don't 'get' me.

brighthair · 13/11/2011 13:49

I know what you mean. MAC is all too orange for me. Illamasqua is good and I am eyeing up the dainty doll foundation too
I think BE made me break out Sad

Pinot · 13/11/2011 13:58

YY BE has made me break out too - damn bismuth. LL is bismuth free so am hoping that'll work out OK. I've got a new silver eyeshadow and it's working a charm against the colour of my hair - really loving it. It's the clash of metallic against ginger hair. Am using it wet as an eyeliner blended above my black eyeliner. Ossom!
