Party dress that will disguise my wobbly mess of a body...?

I'm currently on maternity leave (LO is 7 months) and have been invited to the office Christmas party. The thing is, I'm a fat mess. I'm 5' 9", size 14 (ok more like 16 now) and my belly will have people wondering if I'm pregnant again. Even my legs, though long, have taken a hit and look pretty bad north of my knees but could possibly be salvaged with some black opaque tights.

Is anyone in a similar position who has found a style of dress/outfit that will make them look fabulous and not be the girl who had a baby and let herself go?

In my opinion u need some sort of empire line dress..v.neck line too to show some clevage but that skims over your tummy area n not cling there

BBC4lover · 12/11/2011 15:03

Can I bump please? I am in a similar position - but smaller 5' 3" - and also a wobbly mess under clothes.

Can anyone suggest any clothes (links please ... )

Thanks :)

Hi BBC4lover, you might like a dress I found on asos but they don't have my size m.asos.com/mt/www.asos.com/ASOS/ASOS-PETITE-Chiffon-Kaftan-dress/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=1574870&SearchQuery=Kaftan+dress&sh=0&pge=1&pgesize=12&sort=-1&clr=Nude%23un_jtt_jump_apply_colour I liked it as it seems to show a bit of cleavage but looks like it disguises a few spare tyres and the petite size comes in red.

I bought this today in a lovely magenta pink dress, it's lovely! Skims over the tummy area nicely and shows the right amount of cleavage.

theladylovescupcakes · 12/11/2011 16:37

Forgot to mention, I'm the same height as you OP and a large size 14.

nomoreminibreaks · 12/11/2011 18:19

Thanks Herbietea - is it the tunic shaped deep red one with sheer sleeves? The link didn't seem to work. If so it's lovely and a contender!

Also thanks theladylovesteacakes, but it's sold out! The rest of MN must have beaten me to it Sad

Smile

bigpants103 · 12/11/2011 18:46

It's gone out of stock which it doesn't tell you till you get to the checkout :)

bigpants103 · 12/11/2011 18:47

Only has 8/10 in the red one.

MumblingAndBloodyRagDoll · 12/11/2011 18:55

this is nice but maybe not dressy enough?

MumblingAndBloodyRagDoll · 12/11/2011 18:56

this would hide a lot but looks lovely

trumpton · 12/11/2011 19:06

I have just bought

Purple ruched shift dress
Price: £30.00
Colour: Purple
Item code: 01000005

From Dorothy Perkins. Sorry link will not work. It is a lovely dress on and hides a multitude of sins.

nomoreminibreaks · 12/11/2011 19:09

Sorry Herbie - I was using my iphone so that's probably why it wouldn't work. Really like that!

No-one has mentioned control underwear yet ... I really appreciated it for a "special" night out at the stage you're at.

Other than that, pretty much what alisonsmum said. I am pretty frustrated at the moment since the fashion in dresses this year seems to tend to the "very short".

I signed up recently to dressipi.co.uk style advice site (I think they make their money from linking you to the clothes to buy) - if you have time it's worth a go. You do a wee questionnaire first so they can suggest things that are good for your body type. Liz Wossname dissed it a bit in the DM but I have found the more time you spend rating things the better they hit "your" style. [Disclaimer: I am not connected with them in any way apart from having signed up.] They are worth a try because it saves you looking on loads of different websites.

nomoreminibreaks · 12/11/2011 22:34

Thanks all - and Cruella of course I'll be piling myself into my spanx! Also just signed up to dressipi so we'll see what that brings...

This might not be dressy enough...but I just bought this. media.wallis.co.uk/wcsstore/Wallis/images/catalog/151642019_large.jpg I am 5ft 7.5 (and always wear high heels with dresses) and bigger than you. It is a flattering cut and jersey type material which is good for bumps! Am going to team with black fishnets and black patent shoes.

And with various discounts and free delivery (I ordered other stuff at the same time thanks to the wise words of the ladies of the S&B thread) I got it for £32! I have been sent a discount code for 25% off - WALLIS25 should you be interested.

Good luck and enjoy the do.

Bellavita · 13/11/2011 10:27

this is just lovely

I saw it yesterday whilst shopping and I nearly bought it, but I do have two new dresses already that I need to wear to get my money's worth out of.

It looks quite heavy in the pic but it isn't, it is soft and delicate but perfect with those little circles to hide a wobbly tum.

Opaques would be perfect with it.
