Skinny jeans in the winter - what winter footwear?

Oh dear. Am clueless on what to put with my skinny jeans now it's colder.

Should I just pack them away or has anyone got any advice?

Shoes? Boots? (ps have narrow calves and am only around 5'2'' so need narrow boots - general, boring, issue.)

(Less important ;) side-qu: What about heels to go with black jeans for the evening?)

I don't wear skinny jeans but looking at those who can do - boots make the most sense of any footwear with them.

2cats2many · 11/11/2011 14:30

I think skinny jeans look hideous with any footwear, except boots. I particularly hate the skinny jeans/ ballet pump look. Yuk!

sillymillyb · 11/11/2011 14:48

I second the boots option. I live in skinny jeans and a knee length biker boot type ensemble..... good for stomping about in cold weather in!

shellye · 11/11/2011 15:17

Just want to add OP that I love my skinny jeans and boots. I am only 5 foot and have slim calves and have bought children's boots this year as I only have size 3 feet!Perfect calf fit!

noddyholder · 11/11/2011 15:19

I mostly wear boots but also converse and sometimes black ballet pumps and fine striped wool socks black/grey etc. Have small feet so I think it looks fine. Brogues look ok too if worn right.

What about biker boots (midcalf)? And at almost 40?

ItsaMissTerri · 11/11/2011 21:42

4weeks ago I bought a pair of black Clarks boots -Orinocco Jazz - and have lived in them with jeggings and skinny jeans. Best boots I have had for a few years. They have an elastic v bit at the back which makes them good for different sized calves. Have had lots of complements and they are also very comfy. Am size 5.5 but got the 6 and perfect.

Ohh - ta for all the advice. Have been thinking of biker boots (hum, yes, last had a pair at 21 - now yes almost 40 but but but). Anyone got a pair they can link me too? I looked in Office but didn't see any. Not millions of other shoe shops near me - couple of department stores (Debenhams etc) and a Clarks.

Talking of - ItsaMiss - cheers for the clarks suggestion! This will speed up the process.Toddlerzumm ends up complaining whenever I try to take him shoe shopping, can't think why ;). But, Clarks? Really? I have dreadful memories of nasty (i.e. uber-sensible) child-hood shoes from in there. Thinking they'd changed, I bought some sling backs from there a few years ago and wore them about once - I found, once out and about, that they seemed to be just so, well, old lady sensible (sensible buckle detail and a squidy heel, which made me feel like a great aunt). I shall give it another go though, inspired by you, with thanks.

Noddy - you are lucky: my converse look awful with skinny jeans. Despite having size 8 jeans, I have size 5 feet and am only 5'2/3'' tall, so trainers cause a sort of clown like/90s vibe. Weirdly ballet pumps and flip flops always looked good.

Mid calf biker boots, definitely. No no no to socks with ballet pumps! Worst look ever.

ujjayi · 12/11/2011 17:27

I wear:

Knee high boots (dark brown for preference)
Biker boots
Uggs - the Bailey Button version - not tres chic but tres comfy and warm

Ankle boots with a heel - either worn beneath or with the cuff of the boot showing, depending how tight the skinnies are.
Brogues (if I am wearing black skinnies - complete the look with black wool-mix socks and roll the hem of the trousers to ankle length........see Paul Smith's catwalk shows on website for ideas)
Converse

Re: your "side qu" :) I wear either black patent heels, black suede shoe boots or black leather ankle boots with a mid-heel.

zumm · 12/11/2011 19:25

Ujjayi - god, you sound gorgeous - can you link me to any side-qu shoes that work for you?
Margery - likewise. Where are these mid-calf boots? And I know what you mean about the socks (at least, on me, anyway).

Oh yes and generally speaking: I'm trying to keep the spending down - tho maybe I just need to spend some cash to get decent boots. Anyhow, any top shoe tips gratefully rcvd.

I got my biker boots from the Dr Martens store in Covent Garden a few years ago. They've lasted really well, I've just had them re-soled once. They're kind of dark tan. Not sure if they've got similar this winter (and I'm on my phone so can't check and give a link sorry) but might be worth a look. To clarify they're not the traditional dr marten boots BTW! much nicer than that.

My sister just bought some lovely grey mid calf biker boots from Office though, and Gap has done some nice ones for the past few winters so they might have them again.

noddyholder · 12/11/2011 22:41

Strangely I was wearing fine stripe socks ballet pumps and skinnies today and had 2 compliments. It depends how you wear it same with brogues. Biker boots are becoming a bit mumsy where I live everyone wears them. Rolled up skinnies with ankle boots looks great too.

DioneTheDiabolist · 12/11/2011 22:45

I have really skinny calves and most of the boots I would try with my skinnies made me look like I was wearing wellies. Luckily a few years ago I found an amazing pair in Aldo (the sale of course). They were costly, but worth it as I have looked after them and they are still in tiptop condition 3 years on (and they have endured horrible winters).
