Sock problem! What to wear on my feet in winter that looks smart?

I sometimes have to meet with clients and although my job doesn't involve being overly smart (creative industry), I do need to look professional. I usually wear dark jeans or slim fitting trousers with a smartish jacket but I am totally clueless about what to wear on my feet - my normal knee high boots or ankle feel too casual and all of my smartish shoes (ballet pumps, Mary Janes etc) look stupid with socks. I need something that is comfy as we often do quite a bit of walking and preferably something that goes with either a skirt or trousers. I had high hopes for the Clarks ones I linked to in an earlier thread but not sure they are quite right although I do like them. Any other suggestions? I need warm, smart and comfy feet!

Anyone? I might have to buy the Clarks ones if no-one has any better suggestions

I normally wear smart heeled ankle boots with trousers or heeled Mary Jane's and opaque tight with a skirt. I hate cold feet so can't do bare feet in shoes past September

Buy some sheepskin insoles.

Think it might have to be 2 new pairs of something, what a shame!

I agree that boots with jeans sounds too casual. Why don't you wear a skirt with knee-high boots and thick tights?

TougherThanTheRest · 10/11/2011 20:19

Because I've got horrible legs! Might have to rethink though - with thick tights and knee boots there wouldn't be much on show would there. Come to that there are lots of shoes that go with skirts and if they had a heel they might make my legs look a bit more respectable. Hmm, more to think about...

:whispers: opaque pop socks! Look smart, keep your feet warm, but don't make your trousers stick to your legs!

jamaisjedors · 10/11/2011 20:57

What about brogues? (not with a skirt)

TougherThanTheRest · 10/11/2011 21:02

I've never fancied brogues - they're a bit butch for me! But I agree they'd be the perfect solution, might need to rethink.

Pop socks would also work but I'm not sure I can bring myself to buy let alone wear them!
