ok

i have short dark hair. i have booked to have a half head of higlights BUT i don't really know what that means Blush

basically i am bored and want a bit of a change but i don't speak hairdresser Blush

i am going in for a consultation next week but don't want to appear an even more ignorant arse than i already have done.

so

what is it that i want and how do i explain it please??

Half head is just the top layer of hair I think. Full Head includes the underneath layers.

Not sure how this works if you don't have much hair though!

see that is what i thought Blush

i did try and explain on the phone that i actually only have about one inch of hair but the receptionist just giggled Hmm

i'm going to sound like an ignoramus aren't i :( i can see it now, me gesturing in a vague yet hopeful fashion and all the trendy stylists giving me this face Hmm and wishing they were dealing with their normal clients who know what they want :(

I think you'll be fine. At the consultation just explain the effect you want. I don't think it matters what you've booked really. Laugh it off by saying "i wasn't sure what to book but what I want is..." You won't be the first!

I'd want them to charge less for a half head on very short hair though as next time you have it cut it will be all gone! Also half a head is OK on longer hair as your underneath hair will be covered IYSWIM. But with very short hair it may look a bit odd. If the hairdresser is any good they should have a proper discussion before they do anything. And don't be bullied. You are paying remember

well hopefully it will be fine - i have been to this hairdressers 4-5 times now and really like them - fingers crossed they will be able to interpret my hopeful pointing and grinning into hairdo fabulousness!!

cheers :)
