Would I be insane to buy red patent boots

I don't think I've had boots or shoes from Boden before except perhaps flip flops a long time ago.

Boots are here and are £149 with 20 per cent off at the moment leaving £119.

Am I kidding myself that they will "cheer up the bleak days to come" or "add a splash of colour to my winter wardrobe" (irritating copy is my own)? I do need boots but do I need these ones?

I think they are lovely, but it depends if they will be your only pair of boots. Black or brown is more versatile , but if they are extra boots then I'd get them.

They're cute but they look too much like the wellingtons I used to wear when I was 6. Maybe it's the combination of the shape (rounded toe, flat heel) and the shiny red that makes me think that.

Also I can imagine what the sheepskin part up the side will look like after a rainy trip around town (grey, matted and soggy).

In short, red patent boots "yes", these red patent boots "no".

For over £100, I think there is better out there .... will have a scout round for you.

They are very 'Father Christmas' don't you think?

FoiledAgain · 07/11/2011 14:01

They'd be fine if you have to spend Christmas Eve on a sleigh dropping presents down chimneys...

AlpinePony · 07/11/2011 14:02

I like them.

A few years ago I bought some red leather high heeled patent boots from duo. Sadly I tend to wear them under jeans as they're just a touch "look at me, I'm a whore", but yours are ideal for jeans/casual.

FoiledAgain · 07/11/2011 14:02

x-post!

mirpuppet · 07/11/2011 14:05

Yes to red boots

No to those boots with the sheepskin.

IndieSkies · 07/11/2011 14:07

Boots are meant to be functional, and surely red patent boots would scuff, scratch and look terrible as soon as you wore them in the rain, mud and snow?
Are they waterproof?
They look as if they are meant to be worn in hard weather, with the chunky shape, fur etc, but that they would just look like shit very quickly.

That's why I have rejected the Boden Patent boots, anyway.

LavenderScream · 07/11/2011 14:09

They wouldn't be my only boots, but I would hope to wear them a lot at that price! I've just looked at the reviews though and the furry bit isn't actually sheep at all it's synthetic and I absolutely hate synthetic things on my feet.

Re: Father Christmas cracks, ho ho ho, his are actually black, you fun-suckers!

Agree I would probably look like our dog after any wet walks and would end up combing through matted muddy nylon fur sheepskin.

Well you asked for opinions...

But "fun" clothing is very Boden...

DrunkenDaisy · 07/11/2011 14:17

I think they're gross, sorry.

oldqueenie · 07/11/2011 14:29

yuk. step away from the scary boots.

Mabelface · 07/11/2011 14:31

I like them. Grin

LavenderScream · 07/11/2011 16:12

Hmmmmm ok points taken. Think at that price can't risk it and do not want to look "fun".
