Best style of top to wear with jeans that will hide a muffin top belly?

I've put on rather a lot of weight over christmas

I'm going out next week, and want to wear jeans and a belly-disguising, bingo wing covering top. Smocky things just make me look pregnant. Any tips for styles of top to look for in the shops?

It all depends where you are going .... I tend to wear a tailored box jacket - with a camisole underneath .... BUT if you are going out dancing ... you'll sweat like mad

cupcakesbakingonanopenfire · 31/12/2005 18:08

that's my problem. Best tops are looong. Shirts good too (so long as the sides don't dip up too high).
I've decided I need to get higher waisted jeans.

we're going out to a club that does get rather hot, so I need something fairly lightweight

this is a tall order isn't it!

what about a wrap around ballet style top on which the ends dangle down in front of the belly?

what about a longish wrap top?

I agree with crystaltips - something fitted is probably most flattering.

cupcakesbakingonanopenfire · 31/12/2005 18:10

ooh, echo!

Crystaltips · 31/12/2005 18:11

I have learnt that even thought there is rather a lot spilling over the waistband - if you try and hide it - it looks worse. therefore rather than a jacket over a camisole hows about a glittery shirt or something like that ?

I think layers are quite good .....

spacedonkey · 31/12/2005 18:11

most of the time i hide it with chunky jumpers, but i'll look like a ridiculous sweaty fool if i use that tactic when we go out!

sd - "they" say that wrap tops are the MOST flattering .... BUT ... my tits always spill out

spacedonkey · 31/12/2005 18:14

i suppose the tit spillage would distract attention from the belly ... ?

the trouble is my boobs don't put weight on - it all goes on my belly, so my belly actually sticks out further than my boobs

looks ridiculous

but not being funny ..... being very critical ... there are a lot of people with the brass neck to flaunt it - even though they shouldnt !!!

lou33 · 31/12/2005 18:16

Blossomhill · 31/12/2005 19:03

Sd - I am the same and actually found a lovely corset top that "held it all in".

Crystaltips · 31/12/2005 19:08

where the flippin' heck from Bloss ???? Please

Blossomhill · 31/12/2005 19:24

CT - It was gold and black lace. £14 from peacocks and looked lovely.
Thankfully my boobs do grow at the same rate as my arse

Crystaltips · 01/01/2006 14:19

SD - what did you wear? And did you have a great time ????

spacedonkey · 01/01/2006 14:34

I haven't been yet CT - it's next Friday!

ooops sorry ..... LOADS of time to reduce 3 dress sizes .... if all the magazine hype is cracked up to what to claims to be ...

spacedonkey · 06/01/2006 12:27

I've been dieting all week, but the muffin top persists ... but I did find a long sleeved t shirt from esprit that is slightly loose fitting with a sort of drawstring affair at the hip. That, with a skirt that holds the belly in somewhat, will have to do. I'm going out with lou33 - we're gonna look like LAUREL AND HARDY!
