Agh, I hate shopping for dresses! Please help ...

I've got DHs Xmas do next month, it's a black tie dinner and disco type thing.

I've been around the shops, scooted online and feel they're either too young / tarty for me or too old - fashioned. I'm having difficulty finding one I even like.

I'm 34, 5ft1 and a size 10, smallish boobs, with a bit of a tummy now so don't want anything that draws attention to that. I'm also not really a 'dress girl', so if I do find one that's simple but 'dressey', I'll be chuffed. I really don't suit the v-necks around at the moment, I just don't have the bust. Petite dresses do fit me best, but I haven't found one anywhere really.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks

I know, that is my favourite from that list, thank you tethersend.
I just need to live on beans on toast until the end of the month! Very nice though.
Thanks all!

I think I'm going to order the two from Dorothy Perkins - the green one and the red one and keep my fingers crossed! If not, I'll splash the boat with that Debenhams one.
Thanks all again!

OP - you could be me (although I am 41 Envy) I am starting to get a little concerned about my nannas' arms so have been looking for something with sleeves

Tethers You are a star at S & B! There are a couple of dresses I like on the Vero Moda site (3/4 lace and a dotty one if you are interested), but I have never heard of them Blush. Have you ordered from them? Are they safe any good?

OP - I am not really hijacking your thread; you may want to look at those 2 too!

My beloved J. Crew is now available here and is brilliant for petite women.

What about
this

or this

this for a tough of Audrey

or this for some Mad- Men glamour

sheeplikessleep- the Dp one you are considering is the exact same one i have been uming and ahing about.Same worried as you about being short etc.

sheeplikessleep · 06/11/2011 22:10

mominatrix - beautiful beautiful dresses, stunning. the mink one in particular is gorgeous (and to get that reaction from a dress out of me is a rarity!). unfortunately, i just can't justify spending that, when i don't go to many dressy dos! although it would work as a wedding guest dress

nobodysfool - i think i'm going to take the plunge tomorrow and order it in an 8 and a 10. if it doesn't fit, it's £4 delivery i'll lose (free return). i'm going to order the red capped sleeve one too, just so i have a plan B! i'll let you know how i get on! such a pain being short isn't it!
