Dress challenge: help me find a fitted yet casual day dress...please

I am 6ft tall and have an hourglass/pear-ish shape (slim waist wide hips), size 12-14.

And I LOVE wearing dresses with boots and tights, but having browsed the web for days, I just can't find anything that suits me!

I would love a nice fitted (not tight, just with a shape) yet casual (day) dress. Knee length or just above.

Asos all too short and glamorous.
Can't wear wool, but like knitted type dresses (have a lovely Marilyn Moore cashmere knitted dress)
Have looked at Whitecompany (got good one there last year, but all too short this year), at e-bay, Netaporter, Houseoffraser, delilah.....NOWT.

Aaaaaaaargh! Any advice??? Am considering a DVF wrap dress but wonder if that may be too ageing (am 39) and it is WAY over budget but am desperate...

Oh no! The one I wanted to suggest is mainly wool :( Are you allergic?

meltedchocolate · 05/11/2011 09:42

and it was also white company...

josephinebonaparte · 05/11/2011 09:47

Watching with interest.

Chandon · 05/11/2011 09:55

melted, it is just so scratchy, I somehow cannot bear it, but that's not being allergic....just fussy?! Confused

Sometimes merino is fine. Cashmere too (spoilt cow emoticon)

I have loads of fitted day dresses from French Connection. I also have a slim waist and wide hips and am 5'8 and they just seem to fit me really well.

trixymalixy · 05/11/2011 10:30

this is lovely on

josephinebonaparte · 05/11/2011 10:38

I have the fc one from a previous season and it is very flattering but will be very short on a sixfooter.

josephinebonaparte · 05/11/2011 10:38

(The second one)

josephinebonaparte · 05/11/2011 10:39

Third one i mean

Chandon · 05/11/2011 10:42

I like the Camilla one but would be too short on me, I think (like the style though!)

The Wallis one could work, or is it too drapey for school days?Confused

The Monsoon wool one: the problem is I don't know if I should wear a long sleeve t-shirt underneath for winter? Don't get the concept of short sleeved dresses for winter.

Monsoon shirt dress could be a good one though (hope fabric not too thin?) Like the style!

Things like the swoop jersey dress are lovely but way too short for me at 6ft (used to wear short-short when younger, but now at 40 feel too old for that)

Thanks for the ideas! Will order the shirt dress to try :)

True Josephine, it is quite short, didn't think about that!

trixymalixy · 05/11/2011 10:45

I have long sleeved t-shirts for wearing under dresses in winter. My favourites are from primark, and are £3.50 each!

Tillyscoutsmum · 05/11/2011 10:49

I've recently bought this Doesn't set the world alight but looks good with tights & boots and is practical for day time

trixymalixy · 05/11/2011 10:54

I'm also loving great plains at the moment

You're on fire Tilly! Thanks.

I have tried the phase Eight camel and black one, and in real life it is not shaped but straight up and down, and very short (almost a tunic)

contemplating the green one (have green eyes so might suit)....

Tillyscoutsmum · 05/11/2011 11:35

I really like the look of the phase eight one. Shame Sad Debenhams website is a bit crap unfortunately - there's no indication of length on there.

mumtoted · 05/11/2011 23:35

Oo, I've seen a lovely dress I like on Great PLains, thanks for the links. Has anyone got a promo code before I order?
