I quite fancy a kimono but all the nice one's I've seen are black and that's not one of my colours. Has anyone seen any nice ones anywhere?

Have you looked at topshop ?

Lots of non-black ones at asos too.

Warehouse have a few:
cream with sequins
green

sweetheart · 04/11/2011 12:43

most of the top shop ones are very dark or not in the style that I would class as kimono.

asos ones all seem a bit long - maybe I have a very wrong idea of what a kimono is Blush

I'd quite like a floral print one but the warehouse green one is too bold for me. The one I saw which I liked is this one just wish it wasn't black!

buy from japan and look for haori. i've got about 10 from 1940-1960s in a variety of silks, linings and prints. i've paid between seven and forty piunds for them.

josephinebonaparte · 04/11/2011 12:49

Do you mean a kimono jacket or a long kimono

sweetheart · 04/11/2011 12:51

I mean a kimono jacket - aren't they supposed to be uber in right now?

Yrs I think some of the other posters thought you meant a long kimono. There's a nice one in sainsburys.

sweetheart · 04/11/2011 12:59

Is it the gok one? I do quite like it, would have to try it on and see.

yes, a haori is a kimono jacket (traditionally worn by men)

much nicer in vintage heavy crepe silk and contrasting lining than some nasty poly ersatz effort.

tefal · 04/11/2011 13:35

dorothy perkins had some nice ones.

iloveeverton · 04/11/2011 14:00

I have a peach and black one from primark- ive had loads od compliments on it.

Msarsebiscuit · 04/11/2011 21:34

With regard to haori jackets, I have a very beautiful one from this site - vintage silk with a metallic design on the back www.wafuku.co.uk/index.php?c=38. If it's an actual kimono you want, they have a large range of those too.

MissBeehiving · 04/11/2011 22:25

What a great tip on the haori Smile

bouleverse · 04/11/2011 23:01

Thanks for the tips on these vintage ones. I think I know what I want for Christmas now. I have a couple of long vintage kinomos but those short ones are lovely and wearable. I totally agree, old silk is a wonderful thing.

saoirse86 · 05/11/2011 12:19

sweetheart this one is different to the one you linked to but still nice. Or this one.

This one is a bit more traditional looking. What do you think? There are a couple more at river island too.

This is only in size 16+.

Floral print Or another longer one.

There are usually quite a few codes around for very too, but I think only if you open a credit account.

L74XG gets £30 off when you spend £60

Oh gutted - that one is out of stock in my size! I brought the gok wan one today with 25% off but not sure of the colours = might be a bit bold for me. I've ordered about 4 from dorethy perkins but they are all quite dark still, I really wanted a lighter coloured one! Will see when they come.
