Style regulars - what is THE secret of online shopping?

Hi

Occassional poster and often lurker here...

Inspired by you all, I have started to dip my toe into online shopping. Was v excited to find ASOS offered a plus size range, but very disappointed by the result.

So, is there a secret to online shopping? Find a shop where stuff generally fits/suits and stick to it, or order loads from a variety of shops in the hope that something will fit/look ok? My budget is mainly high street.

Just wondered what your online shopping routine/approach is?

Thanks in advance wise ones :)

Free shipping / free returns essential.

Generally know quality of some items as have seen their products before.

Materials the garment is made of.

Free shipping.

I'd say its knowing your shape and knowing what suits you. I can know without trying on a dress whether its going to be right or not. In terms of sizing etc, you have to try to see and free shipping or free returns is always a must...but remember the cost of delivery is cheaper than petrol into town and car parking....

Credit card.

Order enough to get free delivery, I usually order 4 or 5 dresses, in a couple of sizes, make sure you send them back before payment due

Great thanks. Have bulked ordered on a few sites and will see what they look like.

Thanks

Be willing to bend your credit card knowing you will return items - check returns policy, try and find sites that offer the measurements of the dress not just the dress size as there are variations.

I have been searching for a maxi dress and as I am an 18-20, tall with large norks the length and width (at chest) of the dresses have been essential (unless it is a stretchy fabric) as many so called maxi's are too short for me and some 18's are smaller than others.

Hey the secret of online shopping would be that you save time and when you get good offers and discounts online why not avail it online itself.

I use online shopping regularly this time for my sister birthday who is in India, I am thinking of gifting her gift vouchers in India from www.shoppersstop.com/cat-Gift-Ideas-Gift-Voucher-262-318022.html, as she can purchase whatever she likes. Hope she likes the idea.

Free shipping, and preferably free returns.

Knowing roughly what suits your body shape

Not expecting miracles for £10, even if it looks awesome on the model

Having small DC that makes the occasionally post office trip for returns less hassle than actually taking them shopping

You must know what suits your shape

I like a PAypal option, just for speed

I tend to do it late at night!

I dont mind paying for shipping but I hate paying for returns, or not being able to take back to the shop

I also dont like Signed for deliveries with no option to leave behind gate cos I'm out all day

I buy sackfuls of clothes - all the colours and all the sizes, free delivery and returns and I usually send 90% of it back.

salamanda · 31/01/2012 07:50

Yes, buy enough to get free delivery, buy several sizes, make sure they do free returns. I tend to buy from shops I know I like in 'real life', eg Topshop, as I know the general fit and shape of their stuff suits me. I am ALWAYS disappointed when I order from shops that just have catalogues, as the clothes are never as good quality or as nice as they make them look on the models.
