Who has a Lands End down coat/parka?

I know ANOTHER thread on winter coats... Please help though. Lands End have a plethora of diff down coats and I was hoping that anyone who has recently tried on/bought one might give some feedback. I am a size 14 and looking for something that is at least bum length so as to not freeze during school drop offs and prolonged park trips.

all lands end coats are good, i have the squall, rain just falls off it. am lucky enough to live near one of their outlet shops, coats there are about £30.

HermanMumster · 01/11/2011 13:30

I have two. They are warm, waterproof and completely unstylish and I DO NOT CARE I tell you. For dog-walking, toddler-walking, and match-watching they are unbeatable.

nicknamenotinuse · 01/11/2011 13:33

I have one, it's amazing, bought it on line in the sale, the warmest, lovliest coat ever.

BleughCowWonders · 01/11/2011 13:49

I have a quilted one with a fake fur collar and draw string to define the waist. The warmest coat ever - def worth every penny.

Moredofbumsnet · 01/11/2011 13:53

The whole family have lands end squall parkas except for dc3 who is too small. Mine is 8 years old and is not actually waterproof but very cosy and has a hood. I sometimes wear 2 fleeces under mine as I get really cold, DH and the dcs never do.

I have a chalet down coat, the long one, which I love. Its wonderfully warm. I feel the cold really badly but this coat has been just perfect. I've lost weight recently and have been thinking of another, smaller, wintry coat...the down commuter coat has caught my eye, it's waterproof too. Price wise it compares v well against the North Face arctic parka, tho not as trendy. Against the cold, I don't think anything compares to down, and Lands End are very well made, if not quite the last word in style.

CMOTdibbler · 03/11/2011 13:38

I have two down ones - an elderly shapeless one which is fabulous, and the long one with the fake fur hood from last year which is much more stylish but sooo snuggly and warm

SeeLyon · 03/11/2011 15:55

the shimmer one is rather stylish if i say so meslef

the chalet ones
not

CMOTdibbler · 03/11/2011 16:05

Believe me, when I've been in random places where the temp has been as low as -28'C I have not cared about style, just cosy snugglyness

pocketandsweet · 03/11/2011 17:07

Me too.... Im a transplanted Canadian and although I don't particularly want to look like a walking sausage woman I would rather than freeze.

DD1 (21) has one that's about thigh length, belted at the waist and with a furry lined hood. There are lots of handy pockets so she doesn't have to bother with her bag when she's out in the snow or catching trains in dodgy neighbourhoods. She loves it (and she is very picky about what she wears). It has seen her through two midwestern US winters so far.

MWB22 · 03/11/2011 19:15

Me! I've had an older version of this for several years:
www.landsend.co.uk/pp/Down-Chalet-Long-Coat~2351_59.html?bcc=y&CM_MERCH=IDX_00002__0000000054&origin=index
I was a size 16 and am just over 5' tall, so I look huge in it, but I LOVE it. It's like wrapping yourself up in a duvet when you're out in cold weather. It is the only coat that keeps the back of my thighs warm and I seem to really feel the cold there.

daenerysstormborn please tell me where the outlet stores are, I'm on the look out for new one that's a bit trendier now I've lost weight.

mirpuppet · 03/11/2011 19:56

How is sizing on their coats?

SeeLyon · 03/11/2011 20:01

Huge.

MWB22 · 03/11/2011 21:11

I think they label in US sizings, so you need to take that into account too.

cerealqueen · 03/11/2011 22:05

I have the chalet down coat in the imperial purple. The colour is lush. The small, which works out 10/12 was a bit small on the shoulders for me, (hate feeling constricted) though fine everywhere else so i have gone for the medium which is a bit too big but I am thinking I'll be in more layers in winter (I am a 12/14, more verging on 14 at moment).

What is fab about Lands End is the everlasting guarantee, which means you can return stuff anytime, and get your money back so there is no risk if you wear it and change your mind.

cerealqueen · 03/11/2011 22:07

Oh, and sign up for their offers, I got mine with a 30% off code!!

I am 5'4 and the petite was just a nice length, below the knee.

mrsbossyboots · 03/11/2011 22:14

Where is their outlet shop?

tallulah · 03/11/2011 22:29

I bought this after recommendations on here.

It is totally waterproof- I have been caught in torrential rain and been perfectly dry. It is wonderfully warm. It covers my bum. I have never spent so much on a coat but it's well worth it.
