can leather boots be taken in?

I have skinny legs and can never find boots to fit around the calf without looking like wellies
I bought these. at the start of the year after having dc3 when my legs had a little bit more meat on them but they are now too big. Does anyone know whether they can be taken in to make them fit better around the leg? Where would I go to have it done and would it be expensive? Or should I just flog them on ebay (have never been worn) and start again?

Good question partyhats, I was wondering this myself today with a pair I've just bought - I absolutely love them except they're an inch too flappy all up my legs!
Can you put a zip into pull on leather boots as well?

TethHearseEnd · 29/10/2011 22:52

I have had boots taken out before, so a good cobbler will be able to take them in; however, I would check that there would be no 'pinch' in the leather where the seam meets the shoe part IYSWIM... this would depend on the style of the boot I would have thought...

I've had them taken in before and they were fine.

How much did it cost Lesser?

Anyone had this done? I asked a cobbler today and they said they don't do it. Am a bit at a loss!

I had mine done! Cost £7, did you go to an independent cobbler or chain? I went to an independent.

You usually pay by the amount you have taken in. My only advice is to go to an independant and if you haven't used them before, ask to see some examples of their work before you hand your boots over. Please don't go to Timpsons - the amount of botch jobs of seen over the years from them is ridiculous!

I paid £30 to an independent cobbler in Mayfair. Feel a bit ripped off now!

Next time you all go off to have your boots taken in can you send me the spare bits that they remove so I can have them sewn into mine
Thanks in advance
