jeans to flatter post-pregnancy belly

my pre-pregnancy jeans are all low-rise, and I kind of flow over the top. Which is lovely.

So, I'm looking for some jeans that are higher-waisted (but not trendy high waist, they're just odd). I've heard great things about some Asda ones, but they seem to be all out of 12s online.

Any other suggestions? I'm thinking budget jeans, not the really expensive ones.

Thanks in advance!

Damn, I clicked on this to recommend the Asda ones. They are exactly the right cut and price for this situation. I have the Great Bum ones and standard straight cut.

What sort of jeans do you want? Jeggings (the sort that really look like jeans) are very comfy on a chubbier belly and boyfriend jeans are often a little wider on the tum - try Next for the boyfriend jeans. I've resisted jeggings before, but actually, with longer tops and boots, they are quite good!

Topshop Kristen are meant to be good.

spewgloriousspew · 25/10/2011 13:38

Thanks both. I want some skinny ones, and boot-cut if possible. Not sure if I can bring myself to try jeggings.

Might see if I can pre-order some of the Great Bum ones. They've got to have 12s back in stock at some point!

Are the other Asda ones any good, Mrs Hollywood? I really want to avoid low-rise.

As far as cheap jeans go, Asda straight leg jeans are pretty good! They were my first pair of post-pregnancy jeans this time round and they sat just ever so slightly below my belly button - not high rise but v flattering. Also, although they won't be mistaken for 7 jeans or anything like that, the denim doesn't look that cheap! I haven't tried skinny from there. I have a pair of proper high rise ones from Next that are actually pretty good - I would only wear underneath a larger top, though, so no-one will ever see the top!

If you're BFing, then you might be showing the top of your jeans more often. If I'm not wearing a BFing vest, then I have to wear my boyfriend jeans as they are the only ones that the top is acceptable, IYSWIM. I intend on hiding my jeggings secret from the real world! Although if my stretchmarked, saggy belly is even a little bit on show, then that will probably distract people from my jeans!!!!

Levis curvy jeans are good, high enough to cover tummy and are boot leg.

spewgloriousspew · 25/10/2011 14:04

Thanks again. Sadly, Levis are a bit out of my price range. But if I can find some cheap ones on ebay, I'll give them a go. Might try a pair of Asda ones too, can always return them if they don't suit.

I now have faith that there is a pair of jeans that won't make me look repulsive out there!

Asda are very good with returns - which is useful when you're dealing with a new bodyshape after pregnancy!

However, I would warn you against too many eBay purchases at this time. Obviously, it is possible to get some brilliant bargains but if you're even a bit unsure about your shape/size and the possible fit of a pair of jeans, that bargain could turn out to be an expensive mistake. Sadly, I speak from bitter experience! If I'd spent the money that I've wasted on ill-fitting eBay purchases on a couple of decent items from a normal shop, I'd have a better wardrobe now!!

New look do jeans that are about £12 (think they are their yes yes ones?) and they are higher in the waist than others I have. I used them post-baby and they were great as they held me in, but they are quite stretchy so they were really comfortable. They also have 25% off jeans on their website today! Grin

Gap Curvy are nice. Also in a good flattering dark denim. They are quite wide boot cut and waist just below navel. Cute back pockets.

CeliaFate · 25/10/2011 18:02

I can recommend New Look high waist skinny jeans. They're £14.99, are really comfy and hide my muffin top!

CeliaFate · 25/10/2011 18:05

These are the ones I bought. They're so soft and stretchy, it's more like wearing leggings.

M&S flat front skinny jeans. £12.50 really comfy and sit a tiny bit below belly button

dundeemarmalade · 26/10/2011 08:45

I went on postnatal jeans mission yesterday, came back with babybootcuts in 16short Shock at somehow being both shorter AND fatter than pre-pregnancies, nice quality denim and fairly high rise for Dorothy Perkins.also got new look yesyes 3 button flarey ones in dk denim. they have higher rise at back so hope will be better for back flubber...

ThatllDoPig · 26/10/2011 08:50

I'd recommend the M and S ones too. hold everything in and comfy.

I just saw this post and not sure if this will interest any of you. There are these jeans are used while pregnant and after pregnancy called DrDenim. They are sooo comfy and for after pregnancy they are higher so hold you in. Would recommend them:) www.millagrace.co.uk

GemmaBrooks12 · 14/10/2013 14:40

I have tried the Dr Denim jeans too! They were great post pregnancy (and still now)they are high wasted so hold you in but are SUPER stretchy which makes them comfortable, they are the best ones I found.
