Can we talk about lipstick/lipstain?

I'm looking for lip colour in a fire egine red colour and a posy pink. Either lipstick or stain. I want something that's quite 'sheer' if that makes sense.

With regard to stains, I've tried Benefit's Benetint and Posietint and didn't get on with either and had a bad reaction to the Topshop lipstain marker pens. Have also tried Superdrug's cheapie versions of the Benefit stuff - no good. Any other suggestions or recommendations?

Lipsticks - I was thinking something like NARS sheer lipstick - anyone tried it?

TIA

I don't know whether they do the colours you want, but I really recommend Boots No7 'sheer temptation' lipsticks. The level of tint is perfect - there's definite colour but it's not as over powering as a full lipstick. Also, they're only a tenner!

Whatever you go for lipstick wise (Nars ,no 7)i would say consider getting the assistants to get them to apply it and try it before you buy. Space NK will probably do this for the Nars. What about Clinique' allmost lipstick? Dont know if they will have the shade but thats moisturising and quite sheer. For a lipstain Max Factor do the pens and i think possibly revlon( once again don't know about shades).

I found a fantastic one the other day - Burts Bees Tinted Lip Balm. It comes in two shades, a pinky one and a darker reddish stain, which is what I've got. It stays on really well and is very moisturising and looks lovely and shiny. I basically use it all the time now. Highly recommend it.

(btw it's the one in a twisty solid tube, not the squeezy one like Juicy Tubes, as the colour isn't quite as good in them)

Clinique almost lipstick very good, there's a shade called Black Honey which sounds and looks improbable but on the lips is excellent, sheer, deep lip-pink (as opposed to candy pink). It's like a cross between a lipstick and a lipgloss but it's not sticky and icky like gloss.

Thank you ever so much for recommendations - I think a trip to space nk and a Clinique counter is required. Will check out No7 too as have a voucher. I love Burts Bees stuff, will definitely check it out as I need moisturising stuff after the encounter with stupid topshop lipstain. Many thanks!

I'm going to try that burt's bees one - love burt's bees stuff
I have a red 8 hour cream lip tint which is like a stain. Not sure which one I have but it's red here

henrythecat · 25/10/2011 22:33

Will definitely be purchasing the eight hour one too, I didn't know there was a lip tint, I've only ever smothered myself in used the cream.

Hmmm, this could get rather expensive.

that's the problem isn't it!
My 8 hour one lasted ages though
I know that burt's bees were 2 for 3 in boots and waitrose recently also

The problem I've always found with lip stains (although I absolutley LOVE the idea of them) is that they are dry and the colour only stains the dry outer parts of your lips - leaving a definite line between colour and no colour. Just read this back and it does sound weird but I can't ex

lucymr · 26/10/2011 07:39

Oops - explain it any other way!

warmandwooly · 26/10/2011 16:44

I love Clinique almost lipstick in Black Honey. At the moment they have a double ended lipstick and Black Honey lip gloss that I love but can't possibly justify buying as I have a perfectly good Black Honey lipstick left!
