Help! Frock needed for winter wedding - I know you want to virtual shop for me...

I'm going to a wedding on 23rd December; the ceremony and reception are in a converted barn in the ccountry and I have no idea what to wear (which I think is a rather nice problem to have!)

I have only ever done summer and spring weddings before so I need a new outfit, I can't possible think of recycling a previous frock Wink. I haven't really thought of a budget yet, so just throw your ideas at me.

Vital stats - size 8-10, small boobs, 5'6".

Thanks!

this is rather lovely

What's your colouring? Age?

jetgirl · 24/10/2011 22:13

Fair-skinned, dark blonde hair which is just above shoulder length. I'm 33.

Not sure I could carry off that colour, but then I usually play it safe, so it would be cool to do something different.

What sort of colours do you usually go for?

jetgirl · 24/10/2011 22:21

blues, greens, pinks, but fairly muted. I did get a beautiful black silk dress from Monsoon a couple of years back, with bright embroidered flowers on, which really suits my figure, and I could wear it again (have worn it to several weddings), but I really fancy a new dress Grin

I don't want anything too short, but do have good legs so it would be nice to make the most of that asset! I tend to avoid patterns, not sure why, just not very brave I guess.

What I really need is a shopping trip without small children in tow Grin

Ok, so, more conservative? It sounds like you've got a fab figure, bet your could carry off a lot more than you think. But, you must feel comfortable.

this?

this Excellent on I think

probably lovely on. Muted but no too dull.

teal

pink

a bit random. Off to bed, good luck!

OOh, The Hobbs drape dress is beautiful., not so sure about the pinafore dress, but as you say probably would look good on.

I picked out that kaliko dress while browsing the John Lewis website, really like that one.

I like the Coast dress - I have a Coast dress from about 5 years ago that fitted beautifully at the time, but I've lost the boobs I had then (was bf) and the babyweight.

The Warehouse dress is different, but I think would suit me.

Thanks for your help. I'm off into town tomorrow - John Lewis has a big range so I am hoping to try some of these before DD gets too bored of shopping. If all fails, I'll disappear early Saturday morning before DH realises he's got to look after the kids for the morning Grin

I like the first and last ones best too. Am the same age as you and where I am (non-UK) the Hobbs one would be though way a bit too old for our age group. OK there though, I think?

LesserOfTwoWeevils · 24/10/2011 23:02

I suggested this for
someone the other day (for a party, not a wedding). Kaliko again. I think it's lovely.

HettyAmaretti · 24/10/2011 23:04

Sorry, posted too soon.

...the Hobbs one could easily be thought...

Also missed last line: Certainly if you accessorise it well. It's Beautiful!

HettyAmaretti · 24/10/2011 23:06

It is weevil, nearly posted it too. But, I fear Kaliko have let themselves down on the back view, as they so often do. Great from the frnt, frankly middle-aged from the back (IMHO).

jetgirl · 24/10/2011 23:14

I agree, the front of the kaliko one is lovely, but the back is very plain.

I will need to accesorise, won't I? What a shame Grin

One last offering before I actually go to bed Not sure which of the lovely colours is the loveliest...

Accessories. mmmmmmmmmmm

Have fun tomorrow (?)

jetgirl · 24/10/2011 23:28

The plum is gorgeous. LK Bennet dresses are always cut so beautifully, I've been browsing those. Love their shoes too...
I suspect tomorrow won't be much fun for DD, so won't be for me, but i think I might be able to persuade a friend to come with me on Saturday which would be much more fun!

Any luck yesterday?

jetgirl · 26/10/2011 20:08

Hi Hetty

Yes and no! Some lovely dresses in John Lewis but our store doesn't stock kaliko and I really wanted to try that one on. My plan is a little trip to Winchester on Friday with dd in tow, to go to lk bennett amd try davina, then john lewis on Saturday with a friend for a browse with no children around!
Will keep you posted!
