I've got my eye on this . I like it because its half cotton, and the colour is really cool. Do you think I'm too big for it (16) or to old (mid 30s). Are there any other nice dresses

Jessicaalbastwin · 24/10/2011 09:11

Sorry I don't like it, the colour is ok, but the actual dress imo isn't flattering.

bigfatgypsy · 24/10/2011 09:31

I agree, the colour is nice but the style just seems a bit frumpy to me.

I prefer this one

vanillagorilla · 24/10/2011 12:51

Red lace dress

I really like this lace dress....

josephinebonaparte · 24/10/2011 21:09

I'm tall so a petite dress won't work. Worried that a high neck won't suit my big norks!

That Oasis one didn't get a great review on Gok last week.

henrythecat · 25/10/2011 11:10

I think the Oasis one got a bad review because the girl was squeezed into it - she needed a size bigger imo. I think it looked much better quality than the others shown. Colour is lovely.

French connection have some beautiful lace dresses in at the moment, I've bought it in the blue and the black. Really nice quality and hangs beautifully. Very tempted to get the rose colour too. here

Whistles are also doing a beautiful lace dress (called the Victoria I think - can't link as website a pain), someone linked to it on another thread and I tried it on in JL but lace was starting to fray at hem, not good for £175, lovely shape though.

notyummy · 25/10/2011 11:33

How about this?

I liked the one you originally linked to OP, but it looked fairly short in the picture - I too am fairly tall so need to be careful with this. I have seen the Whistles one and it looks good. Zara did have a nice lace dress but I can't find it on the site so assume it has gone. I have a Zara lace pencil skirt and t is v nice.

josephinebonaparte · 25/10/2011 18:06

I'd like it to have long sleeves. I want to wear it at Christmas parties.

The rose fc dress is pretty but wouldn't suit me. The navy one would be better but still a high neck

I have the victoria whistles lace dress and its really lovely.

Flattering to those with boobs as shaped bit underneath the lace at the top.

TeaandHobnobs · 25/10/2011 18:13

Only in black I'm afraid but what about this one from Debenhams?
Style based on Kate Middleton's wedding dress, supposedly.
Bit pricey though...

scotgirl · 25/10/2011 18:21

The (whispers) Daily Mail had a feature on them last weekend in the mag (read at inlaws)

The M&S one and Phase eight got a good write up

Not to sure about the white on the M&S one myself. Do like the phase eight one..

MrsCampbellBlack · 25/10/2011 18:24

Phase Eight one looks nice.

Scotgirl - is reading the DM at the in-laws like reading OK at the hairdressers Wink

josephinebonaparte · 25/10/2011 18:26

The whistles one is gorgeous but out of my budget.

OP posts:
moonshine · 25/10/2011 18:43

I quite like this one as it's a) knee length b) has sleeves c) would suit hour glass and pear shapes methinks. The only thing I'd want to double check is that it is a black and not brown lining (I know it says black but it doesn't look it!)

house of fraser

WomanInTheMoon · 25/10/2011 18:46

I bought this one
Its nice on me (16ish) but pure polyester so may not suit if you are wanting a more natural fabric

pink4ever · 25/10/2011 19:12

A poster on here tried on the black and white m&s one and said it was v bad for those with norkage. I love that phase eight one but sadly out of my budget....

I fancy this one by Ted Baker

notyummy · 26/10/2011 08:49

Woman - I like the one from ASOS you linked to! I am slightly worried though that if you are not as young and freshfaced as the model you run the risk of looking like an Sicilian widow because of the design of it. I am not raddled yet (am nearly 40) but have been umming and ahhing over it because of that factor. Do you mind me asking how old you are and whether you think the 'widow' factor could be an issue....or am I overthinking it Grin?

MrsVoltar · 26/10/2011 08:57

notyummy I would definitely look like a sicilian widow in that!

Its lovely but I'm dark, Italian-looking anyway, and old (nearly 40 too)Grin

Can't remember where the most popular one on Gok was from last week but was very nice.

lucymr · 26/10/2011 09:03

Josephine - I think the dress is gorgeous and I don't think you are too big or too old for it. It's classy but the colour makes it a little edgy - and the style is flattering with sleeves and a nigh neck - not tarty or skimpy. I think it would be perfect for someone curvy

Eyelasher · 26/10/2011 09:04

i think lace doesnt like me
it just always looks WRONG

WomanInTheMoon · 26/10/2011 15:37

not yummy No, I don't mind at all, I am 35.

I tried it on again and I dont think it is too widow-y. I like it because it is midi length (I'm 5'6") and I think it is quite flattering on me. Even though it is polyester the fabric is soft.
You could always try and return it if it doesn't suit

notyummy · 01/11/2011 07:54

Thanks Woman - I haven't taken the plunge yet - really shouldn't be buying any more dresses. But will keep it in mind...
