Isn't John Lewis supposed to be decent brand?

I'm not British, but always had an impression that it was considered such.

I ordered a coat, 2 dresses and 2 pair of pyjamas for DD (as nice clothes are ridiculously expensive in France).

Got them yesterday and there is about 2 inches of stitching missing from the hood lining so the down filling is coming out.

Both pyjama bottoms have overstretched elastics-you know, like when they are old and rotten and not stretchy anymore?- so sleeves and legs lengths are perfect but the waist size is for an 8 yo They are the Christmas robin pyjamas they have in their catalogue.

Anyway, not a big deal, but am a bit disappointed. Can't return the pyjamas as DD have tried them on and promptly spilled some food down the front.

So, is it a fairly common thing with JL or was I just unlucky?

You can still return them as faulty - just wash them then send back, I'm sure they would refund as the customer service is usually fab.

I have tended to buy things rather than clothes from JL, did get some vests last year for DS which were very nice.

YY return the pj's. They'll replace without question, but you can always quote the 'sale of goods act' which means goods must be fit for purpose.

Sorry you've had a bad deal, and I do think you were just unlucky.

I would contact them even though there is the food stain. John Lewis are well known for their excellent customer service and when things do go wrong they always hold their hands up and put it right in my experience anyway.

I do think you were unlucky. I bought DD1 a coat three years ago which still looks fantastic.

I was also surprised that the sizing seems relatively small- DD is 2.9 and I got everything in size 4 y and it's quite snug on her- I was hoping the coat would last 2 winters. I found British sizes always larger than French (tiny, tiny, tiny).

Dresses (6 pounds each, on sale) are lovely, though

as others have said i think you were unlucky the quality has always been good for us hear the customer service is excellent which is why i buy from them although i've never had to use it. I have noticed that the quality from other shops isn't as good as it used to be this year they are clearly cutting costs to keep the prices fairly low. I haven't actually bought any clothing from john lewis in the last 6 months so i really hope they haven't lowered the quality standards.

miche8- I went on to the Boden site in the search for a jacket and there were quite a lot of people giving negative feedback on some jackets, saying that they bought the same model as in previous years but the quality is much worse, cheap fabric, not well made etc, so maybe you're right.

OTOH I have just (10 minutes ago) received our early Christmas present from lovely MIL and SIL- John Lewis goose down all seasons (so two duvets that you can use separately or clasp together for winter) duvet and it is wonderful, wonderful, wonderful, so I accept that I was just unlucky and will give JL another chance.

Buy lots of items from JL, including clothes for DS and always been happy with the quality.
The customer service is very good, we recently broke a blind attachment (our fault) and called to see if they could sell us the spare part and they sent 2, free of charge.
