Possible allergy to Chanel foundation bought in department store, can I return?

I'm so disappointed, I finally splashed out on some decent foundation after a period of stinginess and I thibk I am allergic (itchy, a bit flaky, red skin).

I bought it in a department store, do I have any rights to return?

I'd give it a go - I've returned Clinique stuff to House of Fraser in the past when my skin reacted to it and they were happy to refund me. What's the worst that can happen? If they say no, you're not in any worse a position (wasted money on foundation you can't use) than you are now.

absolutely return!!!! I've had to do this before with no problems, don't even worry about them saying no! If for any strange reason they did I would speak to a manager tbh and would be quite upset!

They aren't obliged to take it back as it isn't their error. However they may have a goodwill policy where you can return it if you change your mind even after you've tried it.

I have down this before with Claris, was fine.

Last year I had a reaction to Shu Uemura cream, the makeup counter refused to return it as they said 'I wasn't using it correctly' so I complained to Selfridges customer services and they refunded it for me.

I'm sure Chanel will be fine though

They are not obliged to refund you. It is fit for purpose,you unfortunately have a possible reaction. Take your receipt & go back whilst they can still see your reaction. Be calm & reasonable,they will probably refund but may offer an exchange. If they do offer only an exchange,ask for a patch test or sample so you don't suffer further reactions. I have been a manager in cosmetics retail for many years. If they refuse to do anything ( v unlikely) then contact Chanel directly.

Thinking about it I would be very surprised and disappointed if they did refuse. I had a similar issue woth a Bourjois foundation from Boots and they refunded with no questions asked. I may pop in tomorrow.

I'd love to think it wasn't the foundation as it is lovely, but I can't think what else it could be.

I'd be suprised if you don't get a refund,the best way is to be very nice about it. If people are shitty about it,they are less likely to get what they want. You catch more flues with honey than vinegar. So long as you have reciept within their return period you should be fine,may be worth calling ahead.

While it's unlikely it's not impossible that some rogue element contaminated the foundation itself; therefore if your skin has reacted badly to it they can't be 100% sure that the foundation was perfect and your skin was incompatible, unless they run tests on the foundation. I have returned products because of this, and the shop normally send the returned sample back to head office to be tested for that very reason (hopefully not on animals). It probably is your skin, but I'm just saying they can't be absolutely sure of that.

A product that is returned certainly does go back to the company. It's highly unlikely they test it though unless the reaction is extreme or a faulty batch etc that has resulted in a lot of returns although if pushed a consultant may well suggest this could happen. They are usually crushed.

I totally agree it's a good idea to be nice, people like to help nice people!

I also don't want to be bitchy but I really think the product is not fit for purpose in this case, obviously not all cases as most people don't have reactions. Just in this particular case. I studied law and that's why this gripes me so much.

Anyway, I hope you had no problems in returning it.

I always have problems with Chanel foundation (don't even try it now) and when I mentioned this to the consultant last time, she said to just bring it back if it caused a reaction. It did, I did and they refunded with no questions.

I'd certainly be nice, I'm not the confrontational sort! I'm going to pop in this afternoon, I'll look for something else at the same time but need to give my skin a break for a while to settle down.

If they have Darphin,try to get some samples of the Intral range,will calm it in no time.
