Evening Dress

OK wise m'netters I need help!

I'm after a fitted, knee (or just above the knee) shoulderless preferably dress. Everything in the shops at the moment seems to be empire line which at 5 ft nothing just doesn't suit me. I'm reasonably slim, size 8-10, and fitted (but not jersey material with my post-kids belly!) 'corset-style suits me.

The nearest I can find is a very dark blue one in Next which is exactly what I want, but it has this stupid brooch thing sewn in and I want one that is much plainer.

Anyone any ideas? It's for New year's Eve by the way and I plan on going shopping for it next week, so nothing on-line. (Was a really nice Kate Moss style dress on As Seen on Screen website but they're not delivering at the mo cos they were affected by the Hemel Hempstead fire)

TIA

do you have a Karen Millen near you? they always have sexy fitted dresses that are good quality too
depends on your budget as well

Debenhams Debut range should do one, but their website is down at the moment so I can't get a link to show you.

Tnanks FKUMG! I've a couple of hours off work this afternoon, and funnily enough there is a karen Millen nearby so will deffo check that one out.

Budget I guess I'd go up to £70 or £80 - hence why I'm buying next week - hope to get a sale bargain!!!

I was going to suggest Karen Millen too. I am 5 foot and I got a lovely cocktail dress there. It had adjustable straps which helped with the length.

There are also a few Petite ranges where you might find something, but range is very limited.

Have a look in Debenhams too - I tried on some nice ones there which were a lot cheaper than Karen Millen. They have a website if you want some ideas.

Looks like Karen Millen is the place then! what are their prices like - I've always thought it was rather pricey, but admitted;y haven't actually ventued into the shop! Are their sales any good?

I've looked at Debenhams Debut range, but the only fitted tings I saw were all really long ball-gown type dresses, and frankly I'd only wear them once. At least with a cocktail dress I'd get a few wears out of it.

They are pricey - my dress was £150 . But hopefully they'll have a sale on. I hope I'll wear mine a few times and then maybe get a bit back by selling it on e-bay.

tortoiseshell · 23/12/2005 11:55

this is lovely, but outside the budget

tortoiseshell · 23/12/2005 11:56

That didn't work - the Zhivago Silk dress on dresses page

titchy · 23/12/2005 11:59

Beautiful Tortoiseshell - sadly way out of my proce range.

I tried a Monsoon outfit but it was way too long (Monsoon usually are).

BTW, my Karen Millen dress is fitted but not too clingy, it is really perfect for a small slim person IMO. There is no picutre of it on their website though. It's also in a satin material which skims lumps and bumps beautifully. Not strapless, it has a double spaghetti strap.

Actually it would probably do nicely for you but I'm not parting .

titchy · 23/12/2005 13:02

Sounds perfect Gingernut!!! Off to KM now!
