Has to be a fine(ish) knit, mostly natural fibres and hip length. To put over day dresses now it's nippier. Oh, and it must be cheap as reading s&b has led to many other purchases recently Blush. Any suggestions gratefully received etc etc.

Zara usually have some good ones, they have lots of navy stuff and I have one from a few seasons ago which is a bit longer than you describe but washes really well.

I would also start the search at asos, gap, warehouse/oasis - cheap fashion places but which do the basics well and won't have loads of trashy embellishments.

Found this one which is ribbed. I find V-necks more versatile, they look good done up or undone unlike cropped round neck cardis!

Thanks ArtyJules. Not sure about the gold buttons. Totally agree re v necks though, more versatile and more flattering.

I have exactly what you want from Zara. Its a couple of years old, but they always bring it out in a variety of colours each year. Usually about £20 - £25 ish. It's hip length, fine knit, dark navy with navy buttons. Usually they stack them on a table with lots of others.

Thanks wideawakenurse I will get down there asap. It's a good sign that it has lasted you a few years.
