Hi - how can you tell if items are genuine or fake? I like this but not sure if it's actually real?

TIA

I think the short answer to that is you can't...until you receive it and know what to look for.

Having said that, it is a reputable seller with 100% feedback, which is the first thing I look for. Have a look in more detail at their feedback to see what people are saying about the items they've received.

Despite saying they will accept returns, it says at the bottom of the listing that returns aren't accepted Hmm but anything you buy as a Buy It Now (as opposed to an auction) is returnable under the distance selling rules so you are entitled to a refund of the cost of the item and postage should you not be happy with it. You will have to pay the cost of sending it back but that should only be £3 or £4.

Good luck!

Thanks DDTWID I might buy it, take it Selfridges to get confirmation and if fake send it back...

There are a few websites out there that tell you what to look out for. Might save your the trip to Selfridges. You'll have to keep us posted with the results! It does look lovely - do you know what the RRP is?

chandellina · 13/10/2011 20:42

there are some amazing fakes out there, down to the tiniest details on the tags. you might decide you don't care if the fake is that good.

Angel786 · 13/10/2011 21:04

DDTWID not too sure - have found this which says £295 but again not sure about the seller here

Chandellina I see your point, but if I'm paying that much I'd want the real thing Blush

If you buy it pay for it through paypal. If you find it is not real then you can make a claim through paypal and get your money back. Although the lisiting says non returnable, it is bollocks because you can if the item is not as described.

That's true Greggs and if necessary there's always the tedious ebay dispute process...!

Ok, fingers x'd - will go for it!

If it's fake and you open a dispute with evidence it's a fake, you'll get your full refund and not have to return it.

The feedback thing is difficult because big sellers are often quick to give refunds in order for people to remove negative feedback.

PinotScreechio · 14/10/2011 10:11

IMO it's fake as NWT. I've never seen designer goods in genuine stores without effective tagging (and often lots of it!). But I may well be wrong, is often the case :)

bishboschone · 14/10/2011 10:20

I think it's fake.. Its in the wording..if it was genuine they would make a big deal of saying so. And surely a Dior scarf would have silk in it?

Angel786 · 14/10/2011 11:04

Thanks Pinot and Bish am off to Bond St next week so will ask Selfridges, if it's fake then I will request a refund.
