thank you to the mnetter who suggested boden for a coat.
Ive always turned my nose up at Boden thought it was for middle class bored housewives.
Am pleasantly suprised Smile

The coat is bloody fab, i bought the star print one, fleece lined, waterproof its perfect.
Already had comments on its first wear today.

How old is he? Can you link? Only I am browsing for a duffle coat for 7yo DS, too.

mosschops30 · 12/10/2011 12:15

Sorry meant ds2, he is 2, but now ds1 (7) wants one too. They come in different patterns

here

We have stars one, they go up to teens. Dont think i will ever buy another coat, its lovely.

Looked everywhere, they were either too schooly or too chavvy

Boden jackets are really hard wearing, too - or just look better and better as they get 'distressed' - rather than scruffy!

aftereight · 12/10/2011 12:22

I bought the snowboarding jacket for DS, it that the same one? Fantastic quality and had loads of comments since he first wore it.

mosschops30 · 12/10/2011 13:12

No i bought the fleece lined anorak. Love the snowboarding ones too though

glad you like it

my ds has been wearing his for a few weeks now I got his in the army camouflage as he is bloomin army mad & he loves it

& for the price as I used a discount code with some other stuff I bought there are no complaints here

miche8 · 12/10/2011 13:48

we got the star ones last year have worn and washed very well and still fit this year.

Just a warning though for those with older boys my 7yr old son liked the coat i said it would be easy for him to spot at school as every one has navy coats he agreed, but some boys laughed at him for having a babyish star coat (his little brother has the same) so he refused to wear to school but will happily wear it out of school.

mosschops30 · 12/10/2011 14:56

Yes i thought that when he said this morning that he wanted the same star ine.
I think for ds1 i would prob go for the plain navy, stripe or camo one

Blimey, the prices! F* me, I think I will endeavor to persuade DS to soldier on with the puffy coat he has (freebie from step-gran). They do look lovely, though. I'd like this one.

mosschops30 · 12/10/2011 17:20

But youd pay £30 for a coat from next that is shite quality and you see every other person wearing.
I think the quality is worth the money

OP posts:
mosschops30 · 12/10/2011 17:21

With the code i got 15% offso obly paid £29 for the fleece lined anorak

But I paid nothing for Granny's coat, and 2-8 quid for most the other coats we own from charity shops. So 40 quid is quite a shock for folk like me.

DS is very fussy, so would really prefer to ONLY buy from a real shop where he can try things on, would not be delighted to pay 40quid and then find he didn't like it EITHER.

mosschops30 · 12/10/2011 19:21

You dont have to keep it lol if it doesnt fit/not liked Smile

ragged this is the one my 6yr old ds has & he loves his but where we live he does not stick out he blends in & I love the coat, easy to wash & dry,no complaints here, price aside it is well worth it & it has re-sell value on ebay which is always a bonus :o

UterusUterusGhali · 12/10/2011 22:04

They do look nice.

My head was turned by the ones with zip off sleeves last year but tey may have been shiny which put me off. Maybe that was the girl's.

Hmm, I wonder if DS will last another year in his. Poor DS2 has hand-me-downs.

Does anyone have the trousers to go with the snowboarding jacket? I'm looking for gear for DDs wintersports trip so need something properly functional. (A bit Hmm that essentially the same garments are 'ski jackets' for girls but 'snowboarding jackets' for boys ... tch tch Johnny, tiny bit sexist there Grin)

RiffRaffeta · 19/10/2011 16:34

The girl's fleece anorak is in the catch of the day 30 percent off - today only.

I have bought Boden fleece anoraks for mine the last 3 years - except last year I got DS what I thought was a good M and S one for half the price - the zip went within a few months. False economy.

GrimmaTheNome · 19/10/2011 16:36

Are the zips good on the Boden? (that's what's putting me off Mountain life for the ski suit - her old one lasted a couple of years and still just about fits but now the zip is doing that opening up from the bottom thing.)

sleepevader · 19/10/2011 16:38

I got the star one for ds year in sale. Brought big so still fits. Not debt it to Pre school yet but will when it gets colder.

RiffRaffeta · 19/10/2011 16:44

Zips are good yes, never had a problem, despite small hands being overkeen on a daily basis.

EchoBeached · 20/10/2011 23:14

Can I be a bit of a bore? That boden snowboarding jacket costs £60 as I recall, and the £40 ones are only showerproof, not waterproof. They do look nice but in some areas near me so many kids have them that it looks daft. Fwiw we got a really nice turquoise blue one in next for £30 and i dont think the quality is noticeably different...
