What can I wear to a low key night out with friends?

We're going to an intimate, but informal restaurant. The only things I have are evening dresses, black trousers and silk tops or leggings/tunic combo. Confused None of which seem appropriate.
What would you wear on a night out like this? Can you link me to some stuff so I can decide if I can cobble something together, or venture into town tomorrow and hope for the best!
I'm 5'6, size 10-12, hate sleeveless stuff. I'm 41, with dark hair and pale skin.

Feel like I'm writing a lonely hearts ad! Grin

Skinny jeans and nice tunic, personally.

miche8 · 12/10/2011 12:12

dark jeans with silk top/blouse

CeliaFate · 12/10/2011 12:30

That's the trouble - the only jeans I own are faded bootcut - I've seen a pair of Levis ID curve jeans, but they're £70 Sad.

Dorothy Perkins have a sale, I got some nice dark jeans yesterday for £10 .. Maybe worth a look ?

bishboschone · 12/10/2011 12:35

Would one of your silk tops go with jeans fir a trendier look than black trousers?

CeliaFate · 12/10/2011 12:38

Yeah, I've got a few tops to choose from. It's the trousers that always fail - I'm high waisted, can't bear trousers that feel like my arse is hanging out of! Grin. I will have a look at Dotty P's, there's one in town, so that's easy. Thanks!

Try Gap too. Their sale is on & they had some good jeans in.

FunnysInTheGarden · 12/10/2011 13:22

I have a night out like this planned for next week. I am also the same colouring as you and the same age, however I am 2 sizes larger! I have just bought this and plan to wear it with straight blue jeans, heels and some silver jewellery

I'm not impressed with how the levis id jeans have washed, they faded lots and don't fit as well now no longer my best jeans.

Currently like a dark bootcut pair from next, its their more expensive range £40, will say i haven't washed them yet.

CeliaFate · 12/10/2011 13:42

Ooh, I'm glad you told me about the levis fading when washed. Can you take them back?

I've sorted through my wardrobe and have found a tunic. Going to wear it with leggings and black sparkly ballet pumps. If I shove on some slap and drink enough wine I won't care what I look like!

Next do some nice fairly high waisted slim fit jeans.

Try the Kew 159 skinny jeans, too.

Having been a little downbeat about the new, revamped Kew, i was inspired by a +ve review of their jeans by a poster on here.

They are very stretchy, to the point of hovering on the cusp of jeggings. They are not as good as my old Diesel jeans but, there again, they are way, way cheaper.

They passed the "does my bottom look OK in this?" test. ie. they donated me a distinctly slimmer outline than I have "au natural". I decided I thought they were good for the price.
