I'm 37 on Wednesday and I have no idea what I should be wearing?

I live in jeans and converse and feel like a scruff most of the time so then I'll make an effort wearing smarter pants and tops but end up feeling like a frump.

What should a 37yo sahm be wearing?

There is no 'code of conduct' im afraid, you should be wearing clothes which you feel comfortable and stylish in...... Maybe a trip to the shops with a mate who can help you decide?

I'm 38, and live in jeans/skinnies tucked into long riding boots and blazers/gilets/poncho's in the winter. Layers, lots of them.. I'm not a skirt person,
dress & killer heels for going out.. and LOTS of handbags. I mean lots....Grin

I'm 37 and I also live in skinny jeans tucked into long boots and leggings with mini skirts and long boots, or jeans and trainers. I tend to go for plain tops rather than patterns and I can jazz them up with a scarf or a necklace / chunky bangle if I want to. For going out I have a couple of just above the knee dresses / tunics which go well with leggings and heeled boots or sandals. I also have a black wrap dress for sophisticated dos.

I'm no style guru but these things are really working for me right now.

Same here. Skinny / slim jeans with converse or boots. Although this summer I re-discovered some slouchy boy-fit jeans and they worked really well with slim t-shirts.

I have one smart/casual tailored jacket that does make me look presentable if I pair it with jeans.

I know what you mean about not wanting to look frumpy. I don't want to look like a teenager but I'm not wearing M&S just yet!

Chanel Number 5.

Dump the Converse. They are a bad case of mutton dressed as lamb.

Meglet · 10/10/2011 22:31

What should one wear instead of converse?

Trainers look awful with jeans IMO.

Karbea · 10/10/2011 22:44

I agree dump the converse.

Do you want flats? Id go with a pair of riding boots for winter, unless you want heels then I'd say some shoe boots.

mathanxiety · 10/10/2011 22:54

A pair of really high/wedge clogs (have seen sheepskin lined ones that look really cozy), ballet flats, ankle boots with comfortable heel, shoe boots, drivers shoes, boat shoes, moccasin style, oxfords, updated mary jane style and more funky trainers such as Rocket Dog might be alternatives to the Converse. (Or is that Converses?)

KristinaM · 10/10/2011 23:13

I agree with math about the shoes
Mme cholet is ( unusually for her ) wrong. There are some rules

No trainers or sports wear or fleece unless you are doing sport or gardening /walking the dog

Nothiing from per una

Be very selective if you shop at boden. Nothimg hotchpotch or fun Grin

I have just sold a pair of Converse that were too small on eBay. I was thinking of buying a size up but in the back of my mind also wondering if they were a bit rubbish anyway...
