Sorry it's another 'practical winter boots' thread

I've got my 'nice' winter boots but it's already become clear they are going to be no good for bad weather which is fine, they weren't really meant for that. But I do need something for winter walks and the odd bit of snow (although I do have wellies so they would do for that at a push).

What I'd like:
Warm
Practical to walk in
Waterproof if possible
Stylish and non grannyish
Not too £££ (really don't want to spend more than about £60)

Is there anything out there that matches my wishlist?

Very subjective about non-grannyish but you might find something at the likes of Land's End/Cotton Traders? They cater to the middle aged dog walking market so likely to be actually waterproof rather than style over substance.

I would just wear my hiking boots for muddy walks and snow though, I hate wellies. But those are only stylish to other outdoor fanatics who will think Oh yes, nice Scarpa's.

Thanks for the link but I think I'd veer towards a hiking boot style rather than those, I know they don't come up the leg as far but we don't get snow that often do we? It's more mud and falling over on ice I'm worried about - maybe I am going to have to up my budget a bit...

Very snowy winter forcast for this year.......

These - I have three pairs, and the oldest are entering their 7th winter - you can often find them reduced on Amazon. I give them a coat of walking boot wax every so often and they are good to go for aniother winter.

I wear them with everything, all winter.

Three pairs in different colours, not three pairs because they are no good!

Just try Go Outdoors or somewhere, they have hiking boots for every budget and they are normally fine for mud and snow.

IIRC I once saw a boot with an ice gripping feature that flipped out from the sole (I mean apart from the crampons that DH was swanning about in last winter)

Blimey, I was only imaging walking round the block not scaling an icy peak - on the other hand would be nice to feel safe and secure instead of wobbling around like Bambi every time there's a frost!

WTWTA that's true but then they also said it would be a good summer... Still a good reason to buy some new boots though :)

BikeRunSki should have mentioned my rather ahem, generous calves - not sure how they'd fare in those although I love the idea of DMs, haven't worn them since art college!

I have these and they are the dog's bollocks (also great for biger calves). i know they're too expensive but if you like them, look out for sales, they may be around cheaper and there are also shorter versions.

I LOVE mine, they are warm, dry, cope with any weather and look good with everything.

I love my Ecco boots

They are really, really comfortable, waterproof, non-slippy and look really good with everything. They are also generous on the calf.

They are £155 though but worth the money I reckon. I've had mine for two (snowy!) winters and they are still going strong.

I do fancy a new pair though...

Mammonite - I have ice grippers and they are brilliant. You can wear them over any boots and you will not slip over in the snow/ice. I got some for my mum as she wouldn't go out in the snow as she was scared of falling over, but last year she wore them and was very safe (and I didn't have to do all her shopping for her ).

I also have the DM Authentic wedge boots, and am a fellow chunky calf-er. I love 'em

I got DH soem of the ice grippers for Christmas last year. They are fab. He had been walking around the village in crampons which I thought was a little excessive!

Tougher the calves are wide on the DMs. I originally bought them because they fitted! My calves are 44cm round the widest bulge (pure muscle obv),

Oh in that case they may be worth a go. Know what you mean about lardy muscly legs, it's such a pain isn't it...
