Is it poor form to wear different colour nail polish on finger nails and toe nails?

I don't mean each one painted a separate colour, more the fact I plan to wear an autumn coloured dress tomorrow night - think copper, greens and deep reds.

I have a stunning copper colour polish which I love on my nails, but I have a manky toe [fungal nail bleurgh] and the copper one won't cover it. I have a deep red/burgandy colour too which when I wear on my finger nails (even with a base coat!) it leaves a reddy stain.

SO could I wear the deep red on toe nails as it would cover the manky nail and copper on my finger nails?

Though judging by the rain/hailstones outside tonight I can forget about the sandals and buy tights and boots :(

I don't think I would even notice if someone had different colour nail varnish on their toes and fingers! I would do it.

I think it's a bit passé to match! I like bright toenails and nothing or nearly natural on my fingers, so go for it. ( also have a manky fungus, how bloody long do they last!)

MangoMonster · 06/10/2011 19:19

Personal preference I'd say. I tend to do it.

I agree, I think it's old-fashioned to match toes and fingers. I don't like dark colours on my fingernails so tend to keep them pale and subtle but am more adventurous with toenails!

Matching probably looks more polished/put together, but if I wanted to paint them different colours I wouldn't give it a second thought.

Well given that my feet are going to be under the table for most of the night, I have decided to just paint over the deep red that is already on my toes :)

Sorted! :)

I think it's the other way round personally -!think it looks a bit naff to see fingers and toes matched nowadays.

Meglet · 06/10/2011 20:58

Old fashioned to match.

The last week I've had midnight blue toes and hot pink fingers.

HotBurrito1 · 06/10/2011 21:10

I'd say it was obligatory to have them different colours. Much prefer dark toenails and light fingernails.

4aminsomniac · 07/10/2011 04:07

Today I painted my toenails different colours, IE all different from each other. Quite nice for a change, although I could see my DP looking at them and thinking WTF?

I do that that too, but only in the winter when no one will see, it makes me smile.

Sometimes to do them tiger/zebra/dotty too.

To answer op, when they are in view I usually have quite striking toes, but very subtle or natural fingers, fingers chip too easily and look rubbish if they are in a dark colour.

I only like matiching finger and toes if they are black or very very dark purple or blue.

Matching shades of red or pink or anything looks very tacky imo.
