Shampoo recommendations for dry, curly hair?

I have thick, wavy hair, sometimes curly and in damp weather it turns into a hell bonnet of frizz. I use the babyliss hot brush and lots of conditioner, but do you think it's worth splashing out for a more expensive shampoo?

I've been using the Aussie range which is ok but doesn't make my hair feel any differently from my previous Pantene range. I know cheaper shampoos can be 'rougher' but do you think expensive shampoos are just marketing hype? I'd splash out if they do work . . . .

Which Aussie one do you use? I have been using Frizz Miracle with similar hair and it has been noticeably less frizzy and more glossy since I started. I also tried their Miracle Moist one and didn't find it as good (use the shampoo and conditioner of each). Are you using any hairstyling products? I decided to ditch anything that had silicones in, having read threads about the curly girl method and think this combined with the Frizz Miracle really helps. I rarely heat dry mine though.

I have long (mid-back length), curly, very dry hair which just loves to frizz and hasn't been cut in 5 months (naughty). I've started using Tresemme Naturals (Naturals mind, not the regular stuff) shampoo and conditioner and my hair is very happy indeed. I shampoo about twice a week but use the conditioner as a rinse-out most days. I also use the conditioner as a leave-in, 3 good fistfuls on my soaking-wet hair, wrap in a towel, leave it alone for about 15 mins then air dry. I can get second day hair out of this method sometimes and that hardly ever happens for me. If you use tons as a leave-in, it also has a bit of hold so I don't always use a gel.

It's marvellous stuff and very reasonably priced. Well worth a punt!

@WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes - thanks for the tips. I did use Miracle Moist and didn't find it impressive so I'll give Frizz Miracle a go.

Why is it better to avoid silicone btw?

@JosieRosie - never tried Tresemme but will give it a go.

As for styling products, I've used Moroccan oil, and the Aveda control paste which I like. Someone recommended a hair oil by Shu Uemura as well.

I can't remember exactly, but I think the idea is that the silicones ( ingredients ending in methicone and siloxane) give an artificial shiny coating on the hair but they also gradually dry it out, there is a website called curly girl that there have been various threads on here about before which tells you properly. Moroccan oil, Frizz Ease and most styling products and conditioners are based on silicones, it is quite hard to find anything without, but there are a lot more silicone free products out there than there were a couple of years ago. I sometimes use Boots Curl Creme which is cheap and silicone free and much beloved by the curly girl website.
