Black for a wedding? Wouldn't you rather wear something less funereal more cheery? So many pretty colours even for late in the summer season.

I think the dress is fine for a wedding and I'd have no hesitation in wearing black to a wedding, though I'd go with brighter-coloured shoes, accessories etc.
