Chanel foundations and more...help please....

I am trying to find a new foundation as the Clinique one I use has been discontinued in my shade and they are all too dark.

I've got used to a fairly full coverage with it, and a reasonably matte finish- but not a powdery look by any means.

I had my colours done at estee lauder who put me as N1 - neutral, verging towards pink- my skin is pale and I usually go for the palest shade, though in Bobbi Brown testers I am porcelain to warm ivory.

Lancome has nothing I like- the ones I sampled don't have much coverage. Laura Mercier is too pale or too dark, Bobbi Brown seems very thin and not much coverage, so I am stuck.

If you use Chanel, have you tried the Vitalumiere Aqua? Is there a pale shade as previous samples I tried were very orangy.

Any other suggestions? I have got a L'Oreal True Match one which is okay but doesn't last very long once it's on my skin.

My skin is pretty normal, slightly oily T zone, but not much.

I have Vitalumiere Aqua and love it, but I don't think you'll like it of you are looking for full coverage, it's quite light.

Have you tried Estee Lauder Double Wear?

ameliagrey · 18/09/2011 16:01

I have tried it on my hand and thought it was like cement! I like fullish coverage but not matte if that makes sense.

I mix 2 parts EL Double Wear to one part illuminating fluid, gives the coverage and staying power without the matte effect. Works like magic. EL will give you a 7 day sample if you ask

VinoEsmeralda · 18/09/2011 16:12

I use Vitalumiere Aqua and not convinced yet. Recently swapped from Vitalumiere Fluide and will try half half when I have a day off and staying in as the initial finish of Aqua is good but it doesnt seem to last.

Gillybobs · 18/09/2011 16:13

Vino I found all chanel foundations slide off my face by 11am : (

VinoEsmeralda · 18/09/2011 16:18

gilly what do you use instead? Am actually thinking changing brand but all their other make up products, especially the mascasa, are brilliant.

Dior no good and not a fan of Clinique either

Gillybobs · 18/09/2011 16:23

See my post above. I need staying power of EL DOuble Wear but mix it with an illuminating fluid to prevent mask like effect. Really does work a treat. Have honestly been round all the counters and wasted a fortune til a Chanel consultant (yes Chanel) told me her and all the other girls used Doublewear to last all day. When I said i found it a bit too heavy she recommended mixing it with illuminator and its amazing

VinoEsmeralda · 18/09/2011 16:26

brillint will go and get a sample from EL. Hope you dont mind me asking but what is illuminator...

hermioneweasley · 18/09/2011 16:27

I use Chanel matte lumiere and am happy with the coverage and 'matte' ness. Used guerlain perfect light before. I have very pale olive skin, so generally find it hard to get a match, but this is fine.

Gillybobs · 18/09/2011 16:31

Its moisturising fluid that is light reflective. Can pay anything from under a tenner to £30 ish for it. I pay minimal! Mine is an ancient one as you onyl need a little but this looks similar. I guess its similar to adding a bit of moisturiser to foundation to water it down but I find using this instead really ups the dewy factor. Good luck

VinoEsmeralda · 18/09/2011 16:38

Brilliant Gilly Many thanks will give that a try!

CaptainMartinCrieff · 18/09/2011 16:41

I have it and love it... But it does not give full coverage and does not have a matt coverage you need matte lumiere or pro lumiere followed by a light powder if you want the coverage and the matte finish.

whojimmyflip · 18/09/2011 19:06

Amelia, yes I rate it and it comes in good shades. did a trial recently and cant see how the Chanel is any better than anything else. The bourgeois one doesn't smell either and is water based - like the Chanel ones ( not silicone which can be a bit mask like)

EL double wear is like emulsion paint but the idea of mixing with an illuminator is good. Or even with a moisturiser.

QuinnFabray · 18/09/2011 22:46

Yes, the Bourjois foundations really are very good. Love the 10 hour sleep effect too, for a lighter coverage. I prefer Bourjois to most of the higher end foundations I've tried, although I do really like Estee Lauder. I prefer the light double wear.

NotADudeExactly · 18/09/2011 22:53

Try Revlon ColourStay if you're at all into the idea of Double Wear. The two are really almost the same exactly. CS has a faint smell of fresh paint, but it doesn't last once applied. It is also a fraction of the price of the EL foundation. I've tried both and really could not say that the EL one is in any way worth the price difference just because it smells ever so slightly better.

I like Illamasqua Skin Base (I think - the one that's supposed to be like a BB cream). It's not supposed to be full coverage but is very buildable.

roguepixie · 18/09/2011 22:54

I love the Clarins one - vita something!!! You only need a tiny blob. Also, the Clarins Beauty Flash Balm put on immediately prior to the foundation stops it sliding off. It really works.

SleepyFergus · 18/09/2011 22:55

I'm sure I read somewhere that Bourjois is made by Chanel....!

mummy2munchkin · 18/09/2011 23:13

MAC!!! Not too heavy, not too light..I use it only on patches of my face that need it as it matches me perfectly and they have loads of shades, worth a try!
