here

I'm need a new winter coat (relocating) and need something practical and warm. I'm a good 20-22, would I look like a turd balloon in it?

I think it is nice. Good colour, long in body (warm and good), hood (good). Quilting can make people look bigger than they are, but the quilting doesn't look 'puffy'.

I give it a 'thumbs up'.

Bangtastic · 18/09/2011 13:53

I personally would go for something with slightly thinner quilting and/or something to draw you in at the waist.. something like

This

Or this

Or this

No matter what my size that is the style I'd go for if I wanted a quilted one, otherwise I think you run the risk of looking like you're wearing a sleeping bag!

AlpinePony · 18/09/2011 13:58

Definitely not a balloon, more like a well-packed haggis, in a mumsy way of course. :(

Alternative?

TinyPawz · 18/09/2011 16:38

Thanks...hopefully it will be better on than in the picture (I suspect not though)

bang I didn't really like any of those - not entirely sure why

pony A trench cut is not going to cut it with the weather, I think trench coats are more of a Autumn coat

I have last years version of it in cream. I tis lovely and warm but def makes me look bigger. Im a tall size 16 and its not terribly flattering on me.

Catslikehats · 18/09/2011 17:17

Honestly it is horrible.

Is there a particular reason why you want quilted?

WhoseGotMyEyebrows · 18/09/2011 17:35

I think it is fine. Will the colour suit you?

What about a wool belted one as an option?

miche8 · 18/09/2011 17:42

I kept seeing similar on mums at the park it looked warm but they were very slim, i'm a size 16 and tried last years on, felt it made me look bigger, was certainly cosy, too be honest i always feel bigger in winter coats especially longer ones, if you love it then go for it.

WhoseGotMyEyebrows · 18/09/2011 17:44

It would make me feel big too miche and I am a 10. Although very short with big boobs!

Tortington · 18/09/2011 17:46

tiny that coat in the op is fugly

AlpinePony · 18/09/2011 17:52

tiny where are you going to be? I've done Alberta in January at minus 50 yet never worn Fugly! ;)

nancythursday · 18/09/2011 17:53

I like it.

TinyPawz · 18/09/2011 20:49

I'll be in Kabul, folks are warning me that the weather is very very cold in winter.

I'm slightly panicking now, Only 5'5, size 20-22 and huge norkage. (I'll be very turd like).

Duffel coat
hooded jacket
Any good?

AlpinePony · 19/09/2011 07:26

Yes, it's cold, but not that cold - at the same time it's a very stylish city - and your shopping options once there will be shite.

gettingolderbytheday · 19/09/2011 09:05

I think the duffel coat (in a good fabric) option would be warm and more flattering than a puffa jacket which only looks good on skinny people.

TinyPawz · 19/09/2011 09:41

That duffel coat is lovely. Maybe in a darker colour
