Waterproof coat. Is North Face worth it?

I need a waterproof coat so I will be brave enough to go out in the rain with DS who has ASD. Any reccomendations? Ive been looking at the north face ones but wondered if they are actually worth it or if there is something better/cheaper that will be good? Without a proper head to toe warm. waterproof outfit Im likely to spend the winter cowering next to the radiator with a small boy who wants to escape to the puddles.

I am a freezing cold type of person who hates getting wet -Northface Artic Parka is the best purchase I have ever made -although it can be a bit warm at times

coats are often warmer and more waterproof than cats

I have a persian cat so I could try wrapping him round me

We do fight over our 2 cats when it gets chilly in the evenings but havent worn them out of the house yet

The Artic Parka is for seriously freezing conditions -I think the other one for average cold wet days was Merrell Wakefield .-

Just taken delivery of a bargainous (?) Merrell Wakefield (£70 from Sheactive) but it will be going back as it's the kind of thing I would wear on a rainy summer's day.
Doesn't feel warm at all to me unless you'd be wearing a Sarah Lund jumper underneath it

It is long however, which I find essential to prevent soggy jeans.

I have a Wakefield and on cold days I wear a north face fleece underneath, which is light as anything but TOASTIE. Best of both worlds.

The wakefield is great for parking your bum on damp park benches in the autumn.

It is a good water proof and, for the price, does have quite a few good technical features. I'm a serious walker and for some context... I use mine for family short walks, rainy school runs, rainy days out with the kids. It's breathable and waterproof. I wouldn't wear it up a mountain and I have better for much lighter, but that costs a lot more!! I'd say it's not a bad price for a proper water proof, not some horrible waterproof that makes you wet from the sweat!!

If you can it'd be worth trying one on before you buy. I do find that NF comes up small with tops. I got a size up so I could wear it with layers underneath. It's also not very long in the body.

Craghoppers are also a brand worth looking at and often have sales on. Also Millets! They do have some good quality gear for good prices. They may not be the height of fashion but what's worse style wise? Wearing the right gear in the rain , or .......

Lands End is just as good for keeping you warm and keeping the rain out. Maybe not uber stylish but you're probably going to be the only ones out there.
