I have a few things from Cos. Small and 36 both fit me well and I think their sizing is fairly standard, maybe a little on the generous side.

I'm what I consider a 'real' 10 but 8 in vanity sizing in M&S, Gap etc. and a 10 in Topshop and H&M, Small or XS in Zara.

From what I remember from trying things on, XS dresses fit comfortably on me but sometimes the S was more flattering.

Not sure if this helps at all but didn't want to leave your post unanswered.

I also found this which may help.

I am a medium in Zara, a 10 in Jigsaw/Kew and a small in Cos (so I'm one size up in MoreSenseThanMoney).

Cos sizing's quite roomy (wouldn't go so far as to say 'tent-like', but...)
Great stuff, though, lovely fabrics!

thanks everyone. I am a true size 10 like you MoreSenseThanMoney so sounds like XS would be fine then!
