Do you think it would be a good idea to put dubbin on my new leather boots to make the sticthing waterproof?

I had a friend who when she had new shoes, always took them to the cobbler to have heels and soles put on them to make them last longer.
And a person I know always smothers his new leather walking boots in dubbin before their first wearing.
So would you do this to a pair of fashion boots? To make them last longer?
Or any other tips on keeping boots and shoes in good condition for as long as poss?

I always use this. Its very good and much better than the cheap aerosol spray cans they sell you in the shoe shop. NikWax do another for suede and Nubuck also which is good.

Yep, I put dubbin on my Fly Ota boots. Taking extra care along the stitching lines to make sure they were covered suffitiently.
