Altering clothes & shoe colour -v- dress colour HELP !

Hi

I have a dilema in that I've been invited to a black tie awards ceremony by my boss (so need to look fantastic even though a new mum...). All my frocks are 2 sizes too small and I find myself in a size 18. Gulp. Now I know I'm overweight, that's not the issue, I'm at weightwatchers and steadily losing it but it's not going to happen by 10 days time.
I've seen a nice dress at Coast, Enya Maxi in black, but it's £150 and it's a lot of money to wear once if I'm slimming. Can you alter a dress to make it smaller without ruining it? I am not an ebayer and I doubt I'd get back the money spent so I can't consider that. I have 2 kids so can't afford a £150 buy unless it gets more than one wear.

Also on the same subject I have some amazing bronze/gold shoes from Dune that cost an arm and a leg - would these go with a black dress or is it best to stick to black with black?

Thanks v. much.
I feel very much frumpy and out of it at the moment so would appreciate any help.

Raye

Yes, dresses can be altered to be made slimmer as you loose weight.

A different colour shoe will look lovely with black - especially metallic. Please either no tights or nude ones though. Maybe a little touch of metallic (as in a brooch ) on the bag (clutch hopefully).

Keep jewellery in same colour as metallic shoes.

You will look stunning, congrats on the baby and have a fabulous night - you deserve it!

What a gorgeous dress! By the way, it's £120 on the John Lewis website. Have a lovely time.

Thank you very much. I'll deffo look at JL for the purchase, thank you you've saved me £30! Will avoid tights (have tan as just back from visiting parents abroad) and will just put my diamond/gold studs in my ears. Will have clutch bag too. xx I feel much more confident now. And if I don't wear it again, oh well never mind...! x
