Silk top. Says don't hand wash-WHY

because they are being very cautious and don't want the item returned if it falls to bits having been 'hand washed'.

I have always bunged silk in the washing machine with everything else (watch out for colour run though, obviously). It should be fine as long as it's not paper thin fabric which might get pulled at the seams.

Lost half my post...
My top says dry clean only, and i've always machine washed it.
Some shops just put dry clean only labels or similar into everything as a precaution.
